About the Hobart FT1000S
Overview
The Hobart FT1000S is a flight-type dishwasher from the FT1000 series. The supplied Hobart manuals cover the FT1000S and related series models, while the parts manual identifies FT1000S-specific heater configurations. Features such as Auto Clean, Auto Delime, a blower dryer and electric heating depend on the machine configuration; confirm the data plate and installed options when planning service or installation.
The machine moves ware through its washing sections on a conveyor. Its controls allow operators to select conveyor speeds, and the operation manual describes fill prompts, cleaning procedures and troubleshooting checks for the series.
Key Features
- Conveyor speed settings: The control parameters list low, medium and high speeds, with default settings of 4.0, 6.3 and 8.5 feet per minute, respectively. The adjustment range listed for each setting is 4.0–8.5 feet per minute.
- Optional automatic cleaning: On machines equipped with Auto Clean, the control guides the operator through a cleaning cycle that takes approximately 30 minutes.
- Automatic detergent feed: The installation manual requires operation with an automatic detergent feeder. The feeder must provide a visual means of confirming detergent delivery or a visual or audible alarm if detergent is unavailable.
- Configuration-specific heating: The parts manual lists electric heater options for the FT1000S. Installed heating equipment and electrical connections depend on the machine configuration.
- Operator prompts and settings: The control can display door, drain and tank-fill status. The operation manual also lists adjustable control parameters for functions such as idle timeout, energy-saving mode and tank stirring.
Specifications

- FT1000S dual-rinse electric heater with blower dryer: The parts manual lists a 10 kW heater at 208 V, 240 V, 380 V, 415 V, 480 V or 600 V.
- Electrical supply: Check the machine data plate and the electrical diagram inside the control box; some configurations require more than one power supply.
- Drain connection: The installation manual specifies a 2-inch NPT threaded drain connection for the applicable configurations described in the manual.
Installation & Requirements
Confirm the machine’s electrical service against the data plate on the control box before installation. The wiring diagram is inside the control box door. Electrical and grounding connections must comply with the applicable National Electrical Code (NFPA No. 70) provisions and local electrical codes. Some machines require multiple electrical supplies. The manual also notes that separate connections may be required for optional electric blower-dryer heaters and electric tank heaters unless circuit breakers are provided; an optional electric booster heater always requires a separate connection at the booster.
Provide the water, electrical and exhaust accommodations required for the installed configuration, and check that the site connections match the machine. The installation guide specifies a minimum 24 × 24 inch vent hood over the exhaust fan housing, supplied by others. Machines without Auto Clean or Auto Delime connect the drain at the 2-inch NPT threaded fitting at either the load or unload end. On machines with Auto Clean and/or Auto Delime, the manual describes a master-drain arrangement and instructions for relocating it in eligible configurations.
Open the water supply valves and, if the machine is steam-heated, the steam supply valve before operation. The detergent and rinse-aid chemical feeders are supplied and installed by others. The manual requires an automatic detergent feeder with a visual indication of delivery or a visual or audible alarm when detergent cannot be delivered. Installation and service involving electrical connections must follow the manual’s instructions; it calls for lockout/tagout and warns that there may be multiple circuits.
Operation
Before starting, confirm that wash arms, strainers and curtains are installed correctly and that tank drains are closed. For machines equipped with Auto Clean and Auto Delime, the manual gives separate instructions for the master drain; follow the labels and the procedure for the installed configuration. Open the required water and, if applicable, steam supply valves, then turn on electrical power.
Press the Power key to illuminate the control display. Close the inspection doors and drains. If a door is open, the display shows “Door(s) Open”; if a drain is open, it shows “Drain(s) Open.” When the required doors and drains are closed, the display shows “Tank(s) Filling” while the tanks fill. Opening a door during filling stops the fill valves; close the door to resume the fill cycle. Select the conveyor speed appropriate to the operation using the control keypad.
At the end of each meal period, run Auto Clean if the machine is equipped with it, following the on-screen prompts. The cycle includes draining, cleaning and replacing strainers, closing doors and allowing the machine to continue through its programmed steps. The operation manual estimates approximately 30 minutes for Auto Clean. The control also includes an Auto Delime function on equipped machines; use the machine’s displayed instructions for that cycle.
Cleaning & Maintenance
At the end of the day, perform a manual cleaning cycle as needed: thoroughly clean, rinse and dry the machine, then leave its doors open. To clean, drain the machine, remove and clean curtains, and flush food debris toward the strainers. Remove the wash arms, open their sliders to flush out soil, and clean the arms in a sink. Empty and scrub the strainer baskets and pans; do not strike them against a hard object to dislodge debris. Remove the dual-rinse strainer and clean debris from the dual-rinse and final-rinse arms and nozzles. Flush the tanks with a hose, then reinstall each arm in its proper location and orientation.
Use only products formulated for stainless-steel surfaces; do not use steel wool on ware or dishwasher surfaces. Pre-scrap dishes thoroughly, use only detergents recommended by the chemical professional, and do not use residential dishwasher detergent. Do not allow food soil to accumulate on the tank bottom or foreign objects—especially metallic contaminants—to enter the machine. The manual recommends water hardness of 3 grains or less per US gallon and warns that failure to follow care and maintenance instructions may void the Hobart dishwasher warranty.
Disconnect electrical power and follow lockout/tagout procedures before maintenance; the manual warns that multiple circuits may be present. Inspect the conveyor drive chain regularly and lubricate it as required with the specified SFGO Ultra 32 lubricant. Lubricate the conveyor take-up unit’s two adjusting screws at least twice a year using the supplied Chevron FM Grease. The manual also specifies Shell Omala S2 G220 for replenishing or replacing gear-case oil.
Troubleshooting
Machine does not operate after Start is pressed
- Check that inspection doors are closed. The display indicates “Door(s) Open” when a door is not closed.
- Check whether the conveyor is jammed.
- Confirm that drains are closed and tanks are full.
- Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker at the power supply.
Ware is not clean
- Check whether dishes were adequately pre-scraped or whether tank water needs changing.
- Check that wash-arm sliders are not left open and that wash-arm nozzles are not obstructed.
- Reduced water pressure can result from obstructions in a pump.
- Check for incorrect water temperature, incorrect detergent dosage, wash arms installed incorrectly or ware loaded incorrectly. Contact the chemical professional about detergent dosage.
- On machines equipped with automatic soil removal, check that the filter and soil-collector standpipe are not obstructed.
Spots on ware
- Check how the ware is loaded, final-rinse temperature and detergent or rinse-aid dosage.
- The manual gives a final-rinse minimum of 180°F (82°C) and recommends water hardness of 3 grains or less per US gallon.
- Contact the chemical professional about detergent or rinse-aid dosage.
If a symptom persists after the listed possible causes have been checked, the operation manual advises contacting Hobart Service. Electrical checks and service work should follow the manual’s power-disconnection and lockout/tagout warnings.
Applications
The FT1000S is a flight-type machine for commercial operations that process ware on a conveyor. Its high-volume format may suit institutional kitchens, large food-service operations and other sites with continuous warewashing needs. Confirm the installed configuration, electrical supply, drainage and exhaust provisions against the machine data plate and applicable Hobart manual before specifying it for a particular operation.
