About the Hobart FT1000Se
Overview
The Hobart FT1000Se is a flight-type commercial dishwasher in Hobart’s FT1000Se series. The product specification describes an energy-recovery configuration with a steam blower dryer, dual rinse and a 30-inch-wide conveyor belt. It is intended for continuous warewashing in high-volume food-service dishrooms, where dishes and other ware move through the machine on the conveyor.
The FT1000Se specification lists Automatic Soil Removal (ASR), Complete Delime with Booster Guard and Delime Notification, and auto dispensing among its standard features. Digital controls display machine diagnostics, and the conveyor speed is variable. The FT1000Se series installation and operation manual covers BAS, BAS-BD, EGR and EGR-BD model variants; consult the machine data plate and selected configuration when confirming installation details.

Specifications
- Equipment type: Flight-type dishwashing machine.
- Model family: FT1000Se. The manual identifies FT1000Se-BAS, FT1000Se-BAS-BD, FT1000Se-EGR and FT1000Se-EGR-BD variants.
- Conveyor: Variable speed.
- Drain connection: 2-inch FPT, 7 inches AFF. The default drain location is at the unload end; a field-installed kit can change it to the load end.
- Water quality: Total hardness below 3 grains per gallon and total suspended solids below 10 microns.
- Recommended flowing supply pressure: 40–45 PSI for building hot water and 30–35 PSI for building cold water. Contact sales engineering if the cold supply is below 55°F; the installation notes also specify contacting sales engineering if flowing steam pressure at the dishwasher is below 12 PSI.
- Final-rinse temperature alert: The operation manual describes an alert for final-rinse water below the NSF-required minimum of 180°F.
- Electrical service note: The specification requires service wire rated for at least 90°C. Detergent and rinse-aid feeder service connections are standard at machine line voltage. The dishwasher does not have internal GFCI protection. The supplied source does not give one universal voltage or electrical load for all configurations; check the machine data plate.
- Room temperature note: Hobart recommends a dishroom temperature of at least 65°F (18°C); the specification notes that lower ambient temperatures may reduce performance.
- Energy-recovery vent clearance: The vent stack and its enclosure can be temporarily removed to provide 81-7/8 inches of clearance for doorways.
- Ventilation: Room ventilation is required to handle the machine’s latent and sensible heat. Vent-fan control is standard on FT1000e models.
Installation & Requirements
Installation involves coordinating the machine’s water, drain, electrical and ventilation connections with the selected FT1000Se configuration. The installation manual instructs installers to check the electrical service against the machine data plate and to measure the site connections against the dishwasher before installation. The data plate is located on the control box; the electrical diagram is inside that box. The manual also says to check that the necessary electrical, plumbing and exhaust accommodations are available at the location.
Water and drain
The spec sheet recommends building flowing hot-water pressure of 40–45 PSI and cold-water pressure of 30–35 PSI. If cold water is below 55°F, Hobart directs users to contact sales engineering. Water quality is specified as less than 3 grains per gallon total hardness and less than 10 microns total suspended solids. For energy-recovery models, the installation manual states a minimum cold-water temperature of 55°F for final rinse when an electric or steam booster heater is supplied. It also specifies a 1-inch NPT female cold-water connection for Energy Recovery and Advansys models. The manual says to purge the final-rinse system for 3 to 5 minutes before reinstalling the final-rinse arms.
The dishwasher’s listed drain connection is 2-inch FPT at 7 inches AFF. The specification gives the unload end as the default drain location and notes that a field-installed kit can move the drain to the load end. The installation manual describes a 2-inch NPT drain fitting and explains that the master-drain arrangement depends on whether the machine has Auto Clean, Auto Delime and the ASR section. For configurations with Auto Clean and/or Auto Delime, it describes the master drain at the unload end by default and gives a procedure for relocating it when the configuration permits.
Electrical, steam and ventilation
The sources do not provide one electrical voltage or load that applies to every FT1000Se configuration. Confirm the machine data plate and wiring diagram for the specific unit. The spec sheet states that service wire must have a temperature rating of at least 90°C, feeder connections for detergent and rinse aid are standard at machine line voltage, and internal GFCI protection is not provided. Where steam is used, contact sales engineering if flowing steam pressure at the dishwasher is below 12 PSI. The energy-recovery installation notes require room ventilation for latent and sensible heat.
Operation
Before operation, the manual says to open the water and, where equipped, steam supply valves, turn on electrical service, close the tank drains and doors, and confirm that the curtains are installed correctly. On machines with Auto Clean or Auto Delime, the master-drain handle must be in the position specified by the manual. Pressing the keypad Power key lights the display. With doors closed and drains in the required positions, the display shows that the tanks are filling; opening a door during filling stops the fill valve until the door is closed. When water reaches the lower float in each tank, the wash, rinse and dual-rinse tanks begin heating. Fill valves shut off automatically when the tanks are full, and tank temperatures are displayed.
The machine’s conveyor carries ware through the wash and rinse sections. The manual provides selectable conveyor speeds. The control can display operating messages such as Door(s) Open, Drain(s) Open, Unload Dishes and Final Rinse Temp Low. The manual notes that the low-final-rinse-temperature alert reports water below the NSF-required 180°F minimum; the alert does not stop the machine from operating.
Cleaning & Maintenance
End-of-shift and daily cleaning
The manual describes an automatic cleaning cycle for machines equipped with Auto Clean. It says the Auto Clean process may be run at the end of each shift or after each meal, and recommends a manual cleaning once per day. Before manual cleaning, switch off electrical power and follow lockout/tagout procedures; the manual warns there may be multiple circuits. Open the front access doors and drain the tanks using their handles. Remove and clean the curtains. Before removing the strainer baskets and pans, hose down the interior and tank shelves so debris is directed toward the strainers. Remove the wash arms, clean them in a sink with their sliders open to flush food soil, and remove and empty the strainer baskets, strainer pans and dual-rinse strainer. Clean the baskets and pans in a sink, and remove the dual-rinse and upper final-rinse arms to clear debris from their nozzles. The manual specifically warns not to strike strainer pans or baskets against a solid object to dislodge debris.
For Auto Clean, the manual directs the operator through draining the tanks, cleaning and replacing the strainer baskets and, on machines with ASR, cleaning and replacing the soil-collector standpipe and strainer pan. With the doors closed and wash-arm sliders in the required position, the machine runs its cleaning cycle. The manual says the automatic cycle takes approximately 30 minutes; wash pumps flush the wash arms and Auto Clean nozzles wash the chamber areas above the strainer pans. The procedure ends by reopening the master drain, closing tank drains and choosing whether to refill.
Maintenance items specified in the manual
- Clean water or steam line strainers one week after installation and periodically thereafter.
- Motor bearings are sealed and require no lubrication maintenance.
- Check the conveyor gearmotor oil level every six months. The manual says the oil should be at the bottom of the fill-plug hole and specifies Shell Omala S2 G220 or equivalent for replenishing or replacing the oil.
- Inspect the conveyor drive chain regularly and lubricate as required with H2 food-grade lithium grease.
- For service or maintenance, disconnect electrical power and follow lockout/tagout procedures; the manual cautions that multiple circuits may be present.
Troubleshooting
The FT1000Se manual provides the following checks and possible causes. Disconnect power and follow the manual’s lockout/tagout warning before work that requires access to machine components.
- Machine will not fill: The manual lists open doors or drains, a closed main water-supply valve, floats that do not move freely, a dirty line strainer, a solenoid-valve problem or low incoming water pressure as possible causes. It advises turning off the water before removing and cleaning the line-strainer screen. Contact Hobart Service for a suspected solenoid-valve problem.
- No heat from an electric blower dryer: Possible causes listed are blower motors not operating properly, a tripped circuit breaker for the electric blower-dryer heaters, or a tripped overtemperature protector. The manual says to contact Hobart if the overtemperature indicator is lit.
- No heat from a steam blower dryer: Check the listed possible causes: blower motors, the steam solenoid valve, a steam supply valve that is not fully open or has too little pressure, or a bucket trap that is not functioning correctly.
- Final Rinse Temp Low: The manual lists a tripped or off booster-tank circuit breaker and a tripped booster-tank overtemperature circuit among the checks. It also directs the operator to ensure the building supply conditions are appropriate.
- Poor wash results or spots: The manual lists incorrect ware loading, inadequate wash or final-rinse temperature, incorrect detergent or rinse-aid dosage, unsuitable water hardness, clogged or misaligned rinse nozzles, and wash-arm installation or blockage issues as possible causes. For detergent or rinse-aid dosage, it directs users to their chemical representative.
- Inadequate rinse: The manual identifies a dirty line strainer, rinse nozzles not seated correctly in their couplers, clogged dual-rinse nozzles or a blocked dual-rinse strainer as possible causes.
- Rinse continues to run: The manual lists blocked photoelectric sensors as a possible cause and instructs users to clean the channels where the sensors are mounted.
- Display messages: For Door(s) Open, close the inspection doors; for Tank Drain(s) Open, close the tank drains; for Unload Dishes, clear ware from the unload section, starting with ware nearest the chambers and removing the ware touching the dish limit last. For a probe error, the manual says to check the indicated lower float assembly for visible damage and confirm there is enough water to cover it.
Applications
The FT1000Se’s flight-type conveyor format makes it relevant to institutional and commercial dishrooms handling steady volumes of dishes and larger ware.
