Overview

The Hobart HTi is a commercial service scale in Hobart’s HT Scale Series. It weighs products, calculates prices automatically from stored PLUs and prints labels. A dual-core processor and embedded Linux operating system support its scale functions, while a graphical touch-screen interface gives operators access to product information and scale controls.

The HTi can connect to other scales on the same network for a hand-wrap station or other applications. Hobart lists compatibility with scale management software for content management, label editing and remote updates. The scale is intended for weighing and label-printing workflows in store departments and other commercial settings.

Installation & Requirements

The specification sheet gives an electrical rating of 100–240 volts, 50–60 Hz, single phase, 1.42 amps and 170 watts maximum. It also lists a 9-foot cord with a grounded plug. The HT Scale quick-start guide instructs users to plug the power cord into a dedicated 120 VAC electrical receptacle; the scale powers up automatically. Use the electrical information for the specific unit and its installation documentation when planning the connection.

Operation

Powering up and operator screens

When connected as directed in the quick-start guide, the scale powers up automatically. The operator start screen includes a dynamic content area that can be configured in Supervisor Mode to suit department needs. The touch-screen interface supports product selection, weighing and label printing. Operators can swipe between three screens, use best-seller keys or search for products by description, keyword or PLU number.

PLUs, language and help

Products are selected using stored PLUs; the scale uses those records to calculate a price and print a label. The quick-start guide directs users to Hobart’s Resource Center, in the Weigh-Wrap section, for instructions on entering a PLU. The guide notes that an internet connection is required to access those instructions. To change the scale language, select the language key; the scale changes automatically. The guide states that two languages are available, without identifying them in that instruction. The Help menu provides the operator manual and tutorial videos, and its index can be used to select French or Spanish materials.

Rezeroing, labels and shutdown

To rezero the scale, clear all items from the platter and press the Rezero button. The label-loading diagram is located on the label cassette base. For further loading guidance, the quick-start guide points to Help > Chapter 4: Maintenance & Cleaning, and to Help > Videos > Printer Overview.

To shut down, use the shutdown instructions in Help > Chapter 3: Using the HT Scale System. Shutdown may take a few minutes depending on the size of the scale database. Do not disconnect power while shutdown is in progress.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The quick-start guide emphasizes proper cleaning and directs operators to Help > Chapter 4: Maintenance & Cleaning for detailed instructions. For printhead cleaning, it points to Help > Videos > Printer Overview. Follow these specific cautions from the guide:

• Do not dampen labels, electronic parts or connections.
• Do not allow water to enter openings in the housing; water entering the housing could damage the scale system.
• Do not use a metal tool on the printhead because it could scratch or break the printhead.
• Check the printer for labels stuck on its parts. If a label is found, remove it promptly by following the instructions in Help.
• Do not use sharp objects to clean the printhead. The guide states that doing so will void the scale’s warranty.

Troubleshooting

Scale stops responding

The reboot button is on the lower left side of the scale and is identified by the power symbol. If the scale stops responding, press the reboot button. The quick-start guide says a message will appear indicating that the scale application is ready to shut down. Select Reboot to restart the scale or Shutdown to turn it off.

Scale does not return to zero

Remove all items from the platter and press Rezero. For more information, the guide points to Help > Chapter 3: Using the HT Scale System, Rezero the Weigher.

Shutdown is taking time

The guide notes that shutdown can take a few minutes depending on database size. Do not disconnect power during the process.

Applications

The HTi can be used for commercial weighing and product-label workflows in retail departments. Hobart states that scales on the same network may connect remotely for a hand-wrap station or other applications. Typical use involves selecting a stored product record, weighing the product, calculating its price and printing a label.
