HWS4

Overview

The Hobart HWS4 is a hand wrap station for manual weigh-and-wrap packaging. The operator weighs and wraps each package by hand, sets it on the heated sealing pad, and a separate remote printer computes the price and prints the label the operator applies to the package. Hobart documents the HWS4 under material numbers ML-44049 and ML-44113 in replacement parts catalog Form 33783 Rev. B, which also covers the related HWS1 (ML-26395), HWS2 (ML-26396), HWS3 (ML-44026) and HWS4C (ML-44225) stations. Hobart's current specification sheet for this station design, F40310, is published under the HWS-4-C designation.

These stations remain in active service: used-equipment listings routinely offer the HWS4 as a three-roll hot wrap station paired with a remote scale and label printer, and replacement components — down to the circuit board and film carrier rod — are still sourced regularly. Installation & Requirements

The specification sheet lists 120 V, 60 Hz, single-phase, 8.5 Amp electricals. The parts catalog also documents 220 V builds: the hot plate element, circuit board, cut-off rod and indicator light all have 220 V variants. A complete hand-wrap system requires the console/printer, weigher, platter and post assembly kit to be ordered separately; the station provides its own outlet for scale/printer power. Hobart's documentation for this station does not publish clearance or ventilation figures.

Operation

The workflow is manual by intent: the operator weighs and wraps the package, places the wrapped package on the heated sealing pad, and the separate remote printer computes the price and prints the label for manual application.

• Film selection: fingertip selection between the rolls on the film selector; film loads easily onto the spring rollers (00-442387, four per station).
• Sealing: the wrapped package seals on the angled hot plate under the non-stick cover.
• Cut-off: the heated round cut-off rod trims film at low temperature.
• Controls: an on/off switch (00-332951) and indicator light (00-133320-00005 on 120 V builds) sit on the control box, with the 12-hour timer knob (00-441788) governing hot plate and cut-off rod run time.
• Ambient tolerance: the station operates in all ambient temperatures.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The hot plate's non-stick cover (6 x 15, 00-130585-00001) is removable, so the sealing surface can be refreshed without disassembling the plate. Beyond that, Hobart's documentation for this station is a parts catalog rather than a cleaning procedure, so service means component replacement. Form 33783 Rev. B documents the replaceable parts:

Two cross-references confirm fitment: the 00-132654-00006 circuit board assembly is item 8 on the HWS4 & HWS4C control box with timer (round cut-off rod) diagram, and the film carrier rod sold by parts resellers fits Hobart heat sealers HWS2, HWS3 and HWS4. Note that HWS4 spring rollers measure 22 5/8", while the rollers listed for HWS1 and HWS2 measure 24 5/8" — the sizes are not interchangeable between those models. Form 33783 Rev. B obsoletes and replaces earlier parts catalogs F15412A, F16035, F16419 and F18009.
