About the Hobart LX30C
Overview
The Hobart LX30C is a fully automatic, front-loading dishwasher from the LX Series. Its model number in the installation and operation manual is LX30C, ML-104353. This is a low-temperature chemical-sanitizing model with a fresh-water rinse. The manual specifies 5.25% or 8.40% sodium hypochlorite solution (bleach) as its sanitizing agent.
The LX Series standard equipment includes two 20-inch-by-20-inch racks, electronic controls, a pumped drain, a fill hose and a drain hose. LX Series machines have a 3/4-horsepower electric motor. The manual also states that LX Series dishwashers shut down automatically four hours after their last use to conserve energy.
Key Features
- Chemical sanitizing: The LX30C uses the specified sodium hypochlorite solution as its sanitizing agent.
- Fresh-water rinse: The model description identifies the LX30C as a fresh-water-rinse dishwasher.
- Rack water use: The manual lists 1.2 gallons per rack for LX30 and LX40 models.
- Daily service routines: The manual provides instructions for cleaning the tank, strainers, arms and water-level probes, as well as guidance for addressing common operating symptoms.

Installation & Requirements
Before installation, the manual says to check the dishwasher for shipping damage and verify that the electrical supply agrees with the specifications on the machine data plate. The machine must be level to operate properly. The manual directs installers to level it front-to-back and side-to-side using a carpenter’s level placed diagonally on the rack tracks and the adjustable feet.
The LX30C’s water supply must meet the model’s temperature and pressure requirements. The manual lists 140°F minimum incoming water for the LX30C, or 100°F minimum when the unit has an electric booster water heater. Flowing pressure must be 15 to 25 psig. If pressure exceeds 25 psig, the manual requires a pressure-reducing valve with a relief by-pass; pressure below 15 psig may result in improper operation. A manual shutoff valve upstream of the fill hose is recommended to accommodate servicing, and a line strainer in the supply line is also recommended.
The plumber connecting the machine is responsible for thoroughly flushing water lines before connecting them, to clear foreign matter that could lodge in plumbing components. The manual recommends water hardness of 4 to 6 grains per gallon and says that water below or above this range may require treatment. Chlorides must not exceed 50 parts per million. Depending on local water conditions, sediment, silica, chlorides or other dissolved solids may call for particulate filtration or reverse-osmosis treatment. The manual advises asking the municipal water supplier about local water conditions and contacting a local Hobart Service Office for treatment recommendations.
The provided drain hose should be securely plumbed into the sink drain without kinks. The drain must have a minimum flow capacity of 10 gallons per minute. The manual also recommends a water hammer arrestor in the common water supply line at the service connection. Steam may escape from the door during normal operation; the manual identifies wood, laminates and veneers as unsuitable for areas exposed to dishwasher steam and detergents, and recommends stainless steel or other moisture-resistant shields for surfaces adjacent to the LX sides and top.
Operation
Before first use, clean the machine as directed in the manual. For chemical-sanitizing models, place the sanitizer delivery tube in the sanitizer container, push its standpipe to the bottom of the container, and check that the tube is not kinked or obstructed. On the LX30C, run four complete cycles without dishes to charge the sanitizer delivery system initially. Check the clear portion of the chemical-feed standpipe frequently to confirm that sanitizer supply is sufficient.
Do not premix a wetting agent with the sanitizing solution: the manual warns that mixing may produce hazardous gas. It also cautions that sodium hypochlorite attacks pewter, aluminum and silver, so chemical-sanitizing dishwashers should not be used to wash those items. The manual identifies the controls for the LX30C as part of the LX18, LX18C, LX18H, LX30, LX30C and LX30H control group.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Clean the machine at least once each working day. To begin the cleaning procedure, press OFF; the machine drains. When the display is no longer lit, open the door and remove debris from the bottom of the tank. Do not allow food soil to accumulate there.
For LX30-series models, the manual directs operators to remove the lower rinse arm by unscrewing the knurled knob, pull the lower wash arm off its shaft, and remove the upper rinse and wash arms in the same manner. Remove the coarse and fine strainers and clean these parts thoroughly in a sink. Wipe the interior, water-level probes and probe under the fine strainer with a damp cloth. Do not use steel wool. Wipe the exterior, including the lip at the bottom of the door, and use a mild cleanser formulated for stainless steel with a soft cloth or brush for remaining debris.
Replace the coarse and fine strainers, reinstall the lower wash arm and then the lower rinse arm, and tighten the knurled knob. Repeat for the upper arms. Spin the arms to make sure they turn freely. Clean the control keypad and display with a soft damp cloth or sponge and mild cleanser; do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners or scouring pads. Leave the door ajar overnight so the interior can air out and dry.
Use only products formulated to be safe on stainless steel. Do not use residential dishwasher detergent, steel wool, or more detergent, sanitizer, rinse aid or deliming chemical than the chemical manufacturer recommends. Follow the chemical professional’s prescribed deliming schedule. Keep acid or deliming solution away from bleach or rinse solution containing bleach: the manual warns that mixing them may produce hazardous gas. The pump motor has permanently sealed bearings and requires no lubrication. The manual cautions that failure to follow its use, care and maintenance instructions may void the Hobart warewasher warranty.
Troubleshooting
The manual’s troubleshooting section gives the following checks for LX Series symptoms. If a problem persists after the suggested causes have been checked, service may be required.
- No machine operation and no display: Check that the machine is ON, inspect the fuse or circuit breaker at the power supply, and, on corded models, check that the cord is plugged in.
- No operation with a door-open message: Open and close the door. If the problem persists, contact a local Hobart Service Office. The manual also refers operators to the machine-won’t-fill checks.
- Dishes are not clean: Check for clogged strainers that restrict water to the pump; clean them as directed. Check for obstructions in the wash arms and confirm that the arms turn. On LX30 models, check that the rinse arms turn. The manual also lists a potentially clogged detergent dispenser and soil quantity, and instructs operators to scrape dishes before washing.
- Low temperature readings: Check that incoming water meets the recommended limits. The manual notes that rapid cycle use combined with low incoming water temperature can leave the hot-water supply unable to meet demand, and that a heavy ware load can cool the wash water. Do not overload racks. The manual also identifies a low booster or sump heater setting as a possible cause; for LX30H it directs operators to call a Hobart Service Technician.
- Machine will not fill or will not fill high enough: Check for low water pressure and a clogged hose strainer, and confirm that site pressure meets the minimum requirements. Clean the probes as directed. Confirm that the main water supply valves are working. The manual also identifies an open drain valve as a possible cause.
For a suspected drain-valve obstruction, the manual describes turning the machine OFF to drain it, then turning it ON and repeating the OFF-ON procedure twice. Wait for READY mode, press WASH, and check whether the water level remains the same during the manual’s stated door-check procedure. If the problem continues, contact a local Hobart Service Office.
Applications
The LX30C is intended for commercial warewashing where an operation needs the LX30C’s fresh-water rinse and chemical sanitizing process. Its supplied 20-inch-by-20-inch racks provide the stated rack format for loading dishes. Because the manual warns that bleach attacks pewter, aluminum and silver, those items should not be washed in this chemical-sanitizing machine.
