About the Hobart LXePR
Overview
The Hobart LXePR is a fully automatic, front-loading commercial dishwasher in Hobart’s LXe series. It uses a fresh-water rinse and chemical sanitizing. The manual identifies the LXePR as a low-temperature model for use with a chemical sanitizer. A product listing reports capacity of 38 racks per hour for the LXePR, while the manual’s general overview gives a range of 24 to 34 racks per hour for LXe series machines, depending on model. These published figures differ; confirm the applicable rating for the specific machine before planning service capacity.
The LXe series shuts down automatically four hours after its last use to conserve energy. Standard equipment listed in the manual includes electronic controls, a drain pump, rinse pump, chemical pumps, fill hose, drain hose, and two 20 × 20-inch racks.
Key Features
- Fresh-water rinse: The LXePR uses a fresh-water rinse and chemical sanitizing.
- Chemical sanitizer pump: The manual says the pump is factory-set for 6% sodium hypochlorite solution. For 8.4% solution, contact a Hobart Service office to change the pump settings.
- Electronic controls: The LXe series uses electronic controls and provides on-screen menu options for customizing machine operation.
- Automatic shutdown: LXe series machines shut down four hours after the last use.
- Supplied equipment: Two 20 × 20-inch racks, drain and rinse pumps, chemical pumps, fill hose, and drain hose are listed as standard equipment for the series.

Installation & Requirements
Water and drain connections
The LXePR requires a flowing water pressure of 15–65 PSIG. If pressure is above 65 PSIG, the manual calls for a pressure-regulating valve with a relief bypass. Pressure below 15 PSIG may cause improper operation. The machine has a pumped rinse system, so a water-pressure gauge is not required or supplied.
The manual specifies a minimum 1/2-inch outside-diameter copper water pipe, with 3/4 inch recommended, and a 3/4-inch male garden-hose fitting for the machine connection. A 6-foot fill hose is supplied. A manual shutoff valve upstream of the fill hose and a line strainer between the valve and machine connection are recommended; these are not supplied. A water-hammer arrestor meeting ASSE-1010 or equivalent is to be supplied by others in the common water supply line.
A 5/8-inch-inside-diameter, 6-foot drain hose is supplied. Securely connect it to a drain, avoid kinks, and provide a drain with a minimum flow capacity of 5 gallons per minute. If the drain hose is looped above a sink, the loop must not exceed 38 inches above finished floor.
Water quality and chemicals
Water hardness of 3 grains per gallon or less is recommended. The manual says water above this level requires treatment and may cause excessive lime-scale formation. High iron levels can cause staining and may require an iron filter; high chloride levels can cause pitting. Check local water conditions with the municipal water supplier before installation.
Electrical and location requirements
The LXePR electrical rating is 120 volts, 60 Hz, single phase, with a rated current of 13.4 amps, a 20-amp minimum supply circuit ampacity, and a 20-amp maximum protective device. The manual requires copper supply wire rated at a minimum of 90°C. Electrical and grounding connections must comply with applicable electrical codes; plumbing connections must comply with applicable sanitary, safety, and plumbing codes. Verify the electrical supply against the machine data plate, located on top of the door.
Moist air may escape from the door during normal operation. The manual recommends moisture-resistant shielding on surfaces adjacent to the sides and top, and says wood, laminates, and veneers are unsuitable where exposed to dishwasher steam and detergents. A vent hood is not recommended above the undercounter machine because it does not produce excessive vapors.
Operation
Before starting a cycle, check chemical supplies and use commercial-type detergents recommended by a chemical professional. The manual advises thoroughly scraping dishes, loading racks appropriately, and using the correct sanitizer and detergent concentrations. Do not use residential dishwasher detergent or exceed the chemical manufacturer’s recommended concentrations for detergent, sanitizer, rinse aid, or lime-scale remover.
For chemical sanitizing, use the sanitizer specified for the LXePR and follow its label directions. Check the sanitizer bottle regularly. The chemical delivery tube should reach the bottom of the container and should be free of kinks or obstructions. Do not allow food soil to accumulate on the tank bottom or foreign objects, especially metallic contaminants, to enter the machine.
The LXe series control menu supports customization through the keypad’s UP Arrow, MENU/DOWN Arrow, and ENT keys. The manual gives manager code 1001 for access to the manager programming mode. The machine shuts down automatically four hours after its last use.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Clean the machine at least once each working day. Use only cleaning products formulated for stainless steel. To begin the cleaning procedure, press POWER; the machine drains. When the display is no longer lit, open the door and remove debris from the bottom of the tank.
On the LXePR, remove the lower rinse arm by pressing the buttons on the sides of the center hub and pulling the arm off. Remove the lower wash arm by pulling it off the shaft. Remove the upper rinse and wash arms in the same manner. Take out the coarse and fine strainers and clean the removable components in a sink. Remove debris from the wash-arm and rinse-arm nozzles. Check that the arms can turn freely and that strainers are not clogged.
At the end of the day, thoroughly clean, rinse, and dry the machine, then leave the door open. The manual also advises using only products safe for stainless steel, avoiding steel wool on ware or the machine, and not allowing food soil to build up in the tank.
Troubleshooting
Machine does not operate
- No display: Check that the machine is on, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker, and, on corded models, check that the cord is plugged in.
- Display shows “DOOR OPEN”: Open and close the door. If the problem persists, contact a Hobart Service office. If the machine still does not operate, consult the manual’s fill troubleshooting guidance.
Dishes are not clean
Check for clogged strainers, obstructions in the wash arms, or arms that do not turn freely. A clogged detergent dispenser, excessive soil, incorrect rack loading, low water, low water temperature, or a turned-off incoming water supply can also contribute. Scrape dishes before washing. During the wash, the manual says water temperature should be above 120°F on chemical-sanitizing machines and above 150°F on high-temperature machines.
Spotting or chemicals not feeding
For spotting on silverware, glasses, or dishes, the manual lists improper rack loading, low water temperature, incorrect detergent type or concentration, hard water, and insufficient fill as possible causes. For chemicals that are not feeding, check chemical levels, air leaks at feeder-hose connections, and kinks in the tubes. Make sure quick-connect fittings and tube-to-tube connections are seated and secured.
Displayed service errors
The manual describes booster temperature sensor errors on LXeH and LXeR models, not the LXePR. Other listed alerts include final-rinse thermistor, fill, drain, sump-level sensor, and booster-level sensor errors. The manual says a fill timeout, drain error, or out-of-range sump-level sensor can prevent operation and allow only power-down; sensor errors may require service. Refer to the displayed message and contact service when the manual calls for it.
Applications
The LXePR is a front-loading commercial dishwasher for washing rack-loaded dishes and ware in commercial food-service settings. Its 20 × 20-inch racks, chemical-sanitizing wash process, and fresh-water rinse are relevant to operations that need an undercounter warewashing machine. Confirm the actual cycle throughput and the site’s water and electrical provisions against the machine data plate and applicable installation instructions.
