Overview

The Hobart LXiC is a fully automatic, front-opening dishwasher for undercounter or freestanding installation. It is the chemical-sanitizing model in the LXi series: a built-in pump injects sodium hypochlorite solution into the final rinse. Hobart specifies use of 6% liquid bleach to provide a minimum 50 ppm sanitizing solution. The machine is rated for 30 racks per hour, with a two-minute cycle listed in the specification sheet.

The dishwasher uses a fresh-water rinse and recirculates its wash water between cycles. Some wash water drains before the rinse, which refreshes the wash water and tank heat. Its controls are microcomputer-based, with a digital cycle and temperature display. The unit also shuts down automatically four hours after its last use to conserve energy.

Installation & Requirements

The LXiC requires incoming water of at least 140°F. Required flowing water pressure is 20 ± 5 psig. If pressure above 25 psig is present, the specification sheet calls for a pressure-regulating valve in the water line. Hobart recommends water hardness of 4–6 grains for best results and specifies minimum water conductivity of 30 micro-mhos/cm. A water-hammer arrestor meeting ASSE-1010 or equivalent is to be supplied by others in the common water supply line at the service connection.

The fill and rinse connection uses a 3/4-inch female garden-hose fitting, and the supplied hose is 6 feet long. The drain connection is 3/4-inch MPT with a supplied 6-foot hose; a loop over a sink must not exceed 38 inches above the finished floor. The specification sheet says the electrical connection is a 1 3/8-inch-diameter hole for 1-inch trade-size conduit at 31 3/4 inches above the finished floor. Hobart states that electrical and grounding connections must comply with applicable electrical codes, and plumbing connections must comply with applicable sanitary, safety and plumbing codes.

Place the liquid-bleach container no higher than 10 inches above the floor. If it is placed in an adjacent cabinet, the sheet specifies a 1/2-inch-diameter hole for the bleach supply line. Do not premix rinse agent and sodium hypochlorite. The specification sheet warns that bleach can attack silver plate, aluminum and pewter. Moist air escapes from the door during operation; Hobart recommends moisture-resistant materials for surfaces next to the sides and top and states that a vent hood is not recommended above this undercounter dishwasher.

Operation

The LXiC runs an automatic wash-and-rinse cycle controlled by solid-state electronics. Opening the door interrupts the cycle; closing it allows the cycle to continue. The initial cycle fills the wash tank, and wash water is recirculated for subsequent wash cycles. Some wash water drains off before the final rinse, which refreshes the wash water and tank heat. The built-in sanitizer pump doses sodium hypochlorite into the final rinse. The machine has automatic fill and an automatic pumped drain, and its controls display cycle and temperature information.

Hobart’s LXi-series operation and care manual includes cleaning, chemical-pump priming, deliming and lubrication sections. It also identifies a delime notification with cycle. The available manual text cautions not to leave deliming agent in the machine longer than recommended and says not to interrupt the delime procedure; if it is interrupted, restart the procedure from the beginning.
