About the Rational iCombi Classic CombiMaster
Overview
The Rational iCombi Classic CombiMaster is documented in four cabinet sizes: 6-half, 6-full, 10-half and 10-full. The manual covers units with electrical connections and units with gas connections. The model name on the identification plate differs from the size designation, so use the type-to-model reference in the specifications below when identifying a unit.
Its operating instructions describe a control panel with buttons and a central selection dial, maximum food-load limits by cabinet size, and an automatic cleaning system. The manual also explains routine care, air-filter replacement, selected error messages and when to contact a Rational Service Partner.
Key Features
- Multiple cabinet sizes: The manual identifies 6-half, 6-full, 10-half and 10-full configurations.
- Electrical or gas connection versions: Separate technical-data sections are provided for these connection types.
- Automatic cleaning: Select a cleaning program and add the displayed number of Active Green cleaner tabs and care tabs. The integrated care system helps keep the steam generator free of scale.
- Operator controls: Use the control-panel buttons and central selection dial to select functions and adjust settings.

Operation
Starting and stopping
Using the controls
Operate the cooking system with the selection dial and control-panel buttons. Use the buttons to select operating modes or functions, turn the central dial to adjust settings, and press the dial to confirm a selection. Operate the display with your hands; the manual warns that sharp or pointed objects can damage it.
Loading and opening the door
Do not exceed the maximum load listed for the cabinet size. Overloading can damage the unit. Push accessories fully into the cooking system. To open the door, turn its handle to the right. If the unit has a door safety lock, first rotate the handle to the left and then to the right. Open the door slowly: hot steam may billow out while the unit is operating. The fan wheel stops when the door is opened. Press the door firmly closed after loading or unloading.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Automatic cleaning
Choose a cleaning program, insert the displayed number of manufacturer-recommended Active Green cleaner tabs and care tabs, and allow the unit to clean itself. The integrated care system also helps keep the steam generator free of scale. Use only the recommended tabs. Let the cooking system and functional components cool before starting automatic cleaning, and wear securely fitting safety eyewear and chemical-resistant gloves when handling cleaning and care products.
Keep the cooking-cabinet door closed during automatic cleaning to prevent hot steam and corrosive cleaning chemicals from escaping. Make sure the core temperature probe is not hanging out of the cooking system during the program; this could damage the door seal. Do not clean externally attached core temperature probes using the automatic cleaning system. Remove cleaning products from the cooking cabinet before preheating. The manual says to clean the unit daily, including when using Steam manual operating mode, and warns that accumulated food residue or grease can create a fire hazard.
Routine care
At minimum, clean the exterior surfaces, LED cover, control panel and plastic parts weekly; clean them more often if needed. For the listed functional components, use lukewarm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth. Let the unit and its functional components cool before cleaning. Do not use automatic cleaning functions on accessories, and do not leave accessories in the cooking system during an automatic cleaning cycle.
Pour 1–2 quarts of warm water into the drip pan daily to clean the drip pan and discharge spout; do not use the hand shower for this task. If the unit was connected to a pre-existing siphon and the stated soft-water or water-softener and cleaning-program conditions apply, clean the drain ventilation pipe weekly. The manual specifies water at 60°C for rinsing this pipe.
Air filter
Remove the air-filter cover using a screwdriver in its notches, then pull out the filter. Clean the filter in a dishwasher and allow it to dry completely. Replace it if it is still dirty after washing. Slide the filter back into the cooking system and refit the cover. The filter must be correctly installed: the manual warns that incorrect fitting can allow sprayed water to penetrate the unit.
Troubleshooting
For error messages, contact a Rational Service Partner and have the unit’s serial number ready. The manual distinguishes service errors from information messages that an operator can address without contacting a service partner.
- Service 10: Automatic cleaning (SC) malfunction; cooking is listed as possible.
- Service 11: Steam-generator water intake malfunction; cooking is listed as possible.
- Service 12: Water-volume measurement malfunction; cooking is listed as possible.
- Service 13: Steam-generator water detection malfunction; only hot-air mode is available.
- Service 20.8: Steam-generator sensor or temperature-probe fault; only hot-air mode is available.
- Service 28.4: Steam generator has not reached its minimum temperature; hot air is possible.
- Service 42.1 or 43.1: Solenoid-valve or water-supply fault; only hot-air mode is available for these listed reports.
- Service 46.1 or 46.2: Pump or water-supply malfunction; cooking is listed as possible.
- Service 32.1, 32.2 or 32.3 on gas units: Check the gas supply, close the gas-line shut-off mechanism and contact a service partner; cooking is not possible.
- Service 20.1: Cooking-cabinet sensor fault; cooking is not possible.
- Service 28.1 or 28.2: Steam-generator or cooking-cabinet temperature limit exceeded; cooking is not possible.
These examples are not a substitute for the complete error-message tables in the operating manual. For a unit being taken out of operation, the manual directs owners to contact a Rational Service Partner. It also says that retired cooking systems contain recyclable materials and should be disposed of using appropriate collection systems.
