About the Scotsman C0322

Overview

The Scotsman C0322 is a modular commercial ice cuber. It is intended to be installed on an ice storage bin or an ice dispenser; some setups require an adapter between the cuber and the bin or dispenser. The manual states that the product cannot be stacked. It describes front-accessible indicator lights and on-off switches for operational control, and covers installation, operation, cleaning and maintenance for the C0322 and other models in the same manual family.

The manual identifies the C0322 model code as a cuber with a nominal ice-capacity code of 03, meaning capacity is expressed in hundreds of pounds, and a nominal cabinet-width code of 22. These are model-code descriptions, not a stated daily production rating for a particular C0322 configuration. The full model number and dataplate provide configuration-specific information.

Key Features

  • Modular format: Sits on a compatible ice storage bin or dispenser; an adapter may be needed for some applications.
  • Accessible controls: Front-accessible indicator lights and on-off switches are identified as standard features in the user manual.
  • Air- or water-cooled configurations: The manual provides C0322 electrical and installation information for both condenser types.
  • Service and sanitation guidance: The manual includes instructions for cleaning the water system, sanitizing the machine and bin, and cleaning the air-cooled condenser filter.
  • NSF listing: The manual describes the model as NSF listed.

Installation & Requirements

Location and clearance

Install the cuber indoors in a controlled environment. Air-cooled versions discharge very warm air into the room at the back, so the manual calls for space at the left side for intake and at the back for discharge. It says 6 in. of clearance at the sides and back is required for adequate operation. For maximum capacity, it recommends locating the unit away from heat-producing appliances and heating ducts, and allowing 12–18 in. at the left for airflow. Minimal clearance at the sides, back and top can significantly reduce air-cooled ice capacity. Space above and on both sides is also needed for service access, though the supplied manual text does not give a specific top-clearance measurement.

Water, drains and filtration

Attach water supply and drain tubing to the unit’s fittings. The manual recommends 3/8 in. OD tubing for the water supply. Water-cooled models have an additional condenser water inlet and drain connection. If filtration is used, filter the water going to the reservoir only—not the water going to the condenser. Replace a filter cartridge if it was used with a previous machine.

All models require drain tubing. The manual calls for rigid drain tubes routed separately: do not tee the cuber drain into the bin drain, and, on water-cooled installations, do not tee the condenser drain into the reservoir or bin drain. Vent the reservoir drain; the manual describes a vertical vent extended about 8–10 in. Horizontal drain runs need a fall of 1/4 in. per foot. Route drains to the building drain and follow applicable local codes for the air gap. The manual notes that this NSF-listed model has a 1 in. anti-backflow air gap between the water inlet tube end and the highest possible reservoir water level, so it says no backflow device is required for the potable-water inlet.

Electrical supply

The dataplate on the back of the cabinet gives the unit’s power requirements, including voltage, phase, minimum circuit ampacity and maximum fuse size. The C0322 configurations listed in the manual include 115/60/1 and 208–230/60/1, with air- and water-cooled versions. The machine is intended for permanent connection and is not supplied with a power cord; extension cords are not permitted. The manual says HACR-type circuit breakers may be used instead of fuses and recommends a licensed electrician. Electrical connections are made inside the junction box on the back panel. The manual instructs the installer to route and connect the supply wires, provide a strain relief and ground connection, check voltage, and secure the junction-box cover. It also specifies a two-pole fused disconnect with at least 3 mm between open contacts and compliance with applicable electrical codes.

Before operation, the manual’s final checklist calls for confirming the indoor location and adequate cooling air, correct electrical supply, water and drain connections, level installation, adequate water pressure, leak-free drains, removal of packing material and tape, and correct installation of required kits and adapters. It also calls for washing or sanitizing the bin interior and checking whether water-filter cartridges need replacement.

Operation

Front-accessible indicator lights and on-off switches provide operational information and control. The manual describes a Harvest button and a Clean button as part of the machine’s controls. During the cleaning procedure, if the machine is running, pressing and releasing Harvest lets the machine complete its harvest cycle and stop. If the bin-full display shows “b,” the manual directs the operator to press and release Off. The supplied material does not provide a complete production-rate table or a full description of the normal ice-making cycle for the C0322.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The manual places responsibility for keeping the machine and bin sanitary on the user. It says the ice-machine water system should be cleaned and sanitized at least twice per year, and the bin should be sanitized as often as local health codes require and whenever the ice machine is cleaned and sanitized. It also notes that mineral deposits form during ice production and calls for a chemical specifically intended for ice-machine scale removal.

Water-system cleaning and sanitizing

The manual’s procedure begins by removing the front panel and evaporator cover. If the machine is operating, press and release Harvest and allow the harvest cycle to finish; if the bin is full and the display shows “b,” press and release Off. Remove all ice from the bin or dispenser, then press and release Clean. The yellow Clean light blinks and the display shows “C” while the machine drains and refills the reservoir. Once the reservoir has filled, add 8 oz. of Scotsman Clear 1 ice-machine scale remover to the reservoir and allow it to circulate for at least 10 minutes.

The supplied procedure also instructs the operator to remove the water-level sensor, ice-thickness sensor, water distributor, sump cover and curtain as applicable for cleaning. It describes releasing the probes from their holder, inspecting the distributor and its orifice holes, and washing the removed parts and interior surfaces with scale-remover solution. For sanitizing, the manual specifies a 2-gallon or 8-liter solution of locally approved sanitizer and clean, warm water, mixed at the sanitizer manufacturer’s recommended concentration. It gives as one possible example a 2 oz. packet of Stera Sheen Green Label in 2 gallons of clean potable water at 95°F to 115°F. Wash the sensor surfaces, sump cover, curtain and water distributor with sanitizer, along with the interior of the freezing compartment, evaporator cover and right-side panel liner. Return the cleaned parts to their normal positions.

The procedure then calls for draining the reservoir with the Clean control, refilling it with the remaining sanitizing solution, circulating that solution for 10 minutes, and flushing the water system with sanitizer for at least 20 minutes before pressing Off. Wipe the reservoir wall and other cabinet areas clean, reinstall and secure the evaporator cover and front panel, and press On to resume ice making. Follow the complete manual sequence for the machine; the supplied source excerpt does not show every intermediate step.

Bin, filter and exterior care

To clean the storage bin, remove and discard all ice. The manual gives a scale-removal mixture of 7 oz. of Scotsman Clear 1 in 84 oz. of potable water to wash the bin’s interior, with excess solution poured into the bin drain. It then directs the operator to wash the interior surfaces with sanitizer and drain the excess.

On air-cooled models, pull the condenser filter forward from the side panel, wash off dust and grease, and return the filter to its original position. The manual says not to operate the machine without the filter except during cleaning. If the machine has been run without a filter, the air-cooled condenser fins under the fan blades need cleaning by a refrigeration technician. The manual identifies the front, top and side panels as stainless steel and says fingerprints, dust and grease require cleaning with a suitable stainless-steel cleaner.

Troubleshooting

The manual includes a section titled “What to do before calling for service,” but the supplied source text does not provide its diagnostic checks or fault-specific remedies. It does identify inadequate airflow, out-of-range site conditions and maintenance needs as matters to verify against the manual: air-cooled capacity can fall significantly with minimal clearance, and the listed operating limits are 50°F–100°F air temperature, 40°F–100°F water temperature and 20–80 psi water pressure. For a specific fault or slow ice production, consult the complete C0322 manual or a qualified service technician rather than assuming a cause from the information here.

Applications

The C0322 is a modular cuber for installations using an ice storage bin or ice dispenser. The manual says many installations use a matching bin, while some require an adapter between the cuber and the bin or dispenser. Confirm compatibility and any required adapter for the intended setup before installation. A compatible Scotsman IceValet hotel dispenser is described by a retailer as working with the 22 in. Prodigy Plus C0322; this is an accessory compatibility reference, not a feature of the cuber itself.
