Installation & Requirements

Location and airflow

The manual specifies indoor installation in a controlled environment. The air-cooled machine releases warm air into the room at the back. Air enters on the left side and exits at the back, so the installation location must allow for intake and discharge. The manual calls for 6 inches of space at the sides and back for adequate operation, and recommends 12–18 inches at the left side for good airflow and maximum capacity. It also recommends locating the unit away from heat-producing appliances and heating ducts. Space above and on both sides is needed for service access; the manual does not give a measurement for service clearance above the machine. The manual warns that restricted clearance at the sides, back, and top can significantly reduce the capacity of air-cooled models.

The stated environmental limits are an air temperature of 50–100°F, water temperature of 40–100°F, and water pressure of 20–80 psi. The manual gives an acceptable supply-voltage range of 104–126 volts for 115-volt models.

Water and drainage

Connect the water supply to the machine’s water inlet. The manual recommends 3/8-inch OD tubing. The air-cooled model has one 3/4-inch FPT drain fitting at the back of the cabinet. Attach drain tubing and route it to the building drain in accordance with applicable local codes. The manual calls for rigid drain tubing and says to route drains separately rather than teeing into the bin drain. It also says to vent the reservoir drain; a vertical vent at the back of the drain extended about 8–10 inches allows gravity drainage and helps prevent water from surging out of the vent. Horizontal drain runs need a 1/4-inch fall per foot.

Scotsman recommends water filtration for ice machines. If filtration is installed, the manual says to filter water to the reservoir, not to the condenser. Install a new cartridge if the filters were used with a prior machine. The manual identifies this NSF-listed model as having a 1-inch anti-backflow air gap between the water inlet tube end and the highest possible reservoir water level, and states that no backflow device is required for the potable water inlet.

Electrical connection

The C0322SA-1 is listed at 115/60/1, with a 12.7 A minimum circuit ampacity and a 15 A maximum fuse size. The machine is intended to be permanently connected and is not supplied with a power cord. The manual says extension cords are not permitted and recommends using a licensed electrician. Electrical connections are made in the junction box on the back panel. The supply wiring must be connected to the junction-box leads, with a field-supplied strain relief and a ground wire attached to the ground connection. The manual calls for a two-pole electrical disconnect with fuse protection and at least 3 mm between open contacts. Follow applicable electrical codes.

Operation

The manual describes front-accessible indicator lights and switches for operational control. The controls include On, Off, Harvest, and Clean. For a cleaning cycle, the manual directs the operator to use the Harvest control first if the machine is running; after the Harvest cycle finishes, the machine stops. If the display shows that the bin is full, the manual says to press and release Off before proceeding with cleaning. To resume ice making after cleaning, press and release On.

The provided manual excerpts do not give a separate reset sequence or define an error code 1. For model-specific control instructions beyond the steps stated here, consult the complete manual or a qualified service technician.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Water system and bin

The manual states that the user is responsible for keeping the ice machine and storage bin sanitary. It says the machine’s water system should be cleaned and sanitized at least twice per year, and that the bin should be sanitized as often as local health codes require and whenever the ice machine is cleaned and sanitized. The manual also notes that mineral buildup forms during ice production and calls for occasional water-system cleaning with a chemical made for ice machines.

The manual’s cleaning procedure begins by removing the front panel and evaporator cover. If the machine is operating, press and release Harvest and allow that cycle to finish; if the bin-full indicator is showing, press and release Off. Remove all ice from the bin or dispenser. Press and release Clean. The Clean light blinks and the display shows C while the machine drains and refills the reservoir. Once the reservoir has filled, the manual directs the operator to add 8 ounces of Scotsman Clear 1 ice machine scale remover and allow it to circulate in the water system for at least 10 minutes.

The manual also instructs the operator to wash the ice thickness sensor, water level sensor, sump cover, curtain, and water distributor with an approved sanitizer solution, and to sanitize interior surfaces of the freezing compartment, including the evaporator cover and right-side panel liner. One possible solution described in the manual is a 2-ounce packet of Stera Sheen Green Label sanitizer mixed with 2 gallons of clean potable water at 95–115°F; it also permits a locally approved food-equipment sanitizer mixed according to its manufacturer’s instructions. Return the components to their normal positions after washing.

For the sanitizer circulation and flush, the manual says to press and hold Clean to drain the reservoir, then press and release Clean again. When the purge-valve indicator light goes out, immediately pour the remaining cleaning solution into the reservoir. Circulate the sanitizer for 10 minutes, then press and release Clean. Allow the system to flush for at least 20 minutes before pressing Off. Return the evaporator cover and front panel to their normal positions and secure them with the original fasteners. Wipe the reservoir wall and other cabinet areas clean, then press and release On to resume ice making.

For the storage bin, remove and discard all ice. The manual specifies a scale-removal solution of 7 ounces of Scotsman Clear 1 in 84 ounces of potable water; wash the bin’s interior surfaces and pour excess solution into the bin drain. Then wash the interior surfaces with sanitizer and pour excess sanitizer into the drain.

Air filter and exterior

For the air-cooled condenser filter, pull the filter or filters forward from the side panel, wash off dust and grease, and return the filter to its original position. The manual says not to operate the machine without the filter in place except during cleaning. If the machine has been operated without a filter, the condenser fins under the fan blades may need cleaning by a refrigeration technician. The manual identifies the front, top, and side panels as durable stainless steel and notes that fingerprints, dust, and grease require cleaning.

Troubleshooting

The supplied manual excerpts identify several operating conditions to check before requesting service: confirm that the unit is indoors in a controlled environment, has adequate cooling air, and has the correct electrical supply; check that water and drain connections are in place, the unit is level, water pressure is adequate, and drain connections do not leak. The final-check list also calls for removal of packing materials and tape, confirmation that required kits or adapters are installed, and checking whether water filter cartridges need replacement.

The supplied excerpts do not provide a definition for error code 1 or a general reset procedure. The manual says to refer to its “What to do before calling for service” section, but the detailed troubleshooting steps are not included in the provided text.

Applications

The small, clear cubes are suited to beverage service, including mixed drinks and other drinks served in restaurants, bars, cafés, and hospitality settings. As a modular cuber, the C0322SA-1 can be paired with an appropriate ice storage bin or dispenser; the storage equipment and any required adapter are separate installation components, not part of the ice machine head itself.
