About the Scotsman C0630
Overview
The Scotsman C0630 is a modular cube ice machine in the Prodigy Plus D Series. A modular cuber is installed on an ice storage bin or an ice dispenser; the machine is not a stand-alone storage unit. Depending on the selected bin or dispenser, an adapter may be needed between the cuber and the supporting equipment. The manual says the product cannot be stacked.
The C0630 shares a user manual with several other D Series cubers. Details below are limited to information the manual identifies for the C0630 or for that model family. The manual notes that specifications and design may change without notice, so check the unit’s dataplate and current model documentation when confirming a particular machine.
Key Features
- Modular installation: The cuber is intended to sit on a compatible ice storage bin or dispenser. Some combinations require an adapter.
- Accessible controls: Indicator lights and On/Off switches are accessible from the front. A lower user-accessible panel duplicates the lights and switches on the controller.
- Service access: The manual describes front-accessible controls and removable air filters on air-cooled units in this cabinet family.
- Optional equipment: The manual identifies the KVS Vari-Smart adjustable ice level system and the KSB SmartBoard advanced feature board as field-installed options. It also notes that some installations need bin or dispenser adapters.
Specifications
- Model: C0630, part of the Prodigy Plus D Series modular cuber family.
- Cabinet width: 30 inches (76.2 cm), as shown in the cabinet layout for C0330, C0530 and C0630.
- Cabinet depth: 24 inches (61 cm), as shown in the same cabinet layout.
- Cabinet height: 30.70 inches (78 cm), as shown in the same cabinet layout.
- Model-number convention: The manual explains that the two digits after the C indicate nominal ice capacity in hundreds of pounds and the final two digits indicate nominal cabinet width. This describes the model code, not a measured production rate.
- Cooling configurations covered by the family manual: Air- and water-cooled models. The cabinet layout also shows a remote-cooled configuration. Confirm the exact configuration from the full model number and dataplate.
- Installation environment: Indoor, controlled environment.
- Environmental limits listed for the family: Air temperature 50°F minimum and 100°F maximum; water temperature 40°F minimum and 100°F maximum; water pressure 20 psi minimum and 80 psi maximum.
- Electrical supply ranges listed for the family: 115-volt models, 104 to 126 volts; 230-volt models, 198 to 253 volts. The exact voltage, phase, minimum circuit ampacity and maximum fuse size for a particular C0630 must be taken from its dataplate.
- Water connections shown for the C0630 cabinet layout: 3/8-inch FPT water inlet and 3/4-inch FPT drain. The water-cooled layout also shows a 3/8-inch FPT condenser water inlet and 1/2-inch FPT condenser drain.
Installation & Requirements
Location and airflow
The manual calls for installation indoors in a controlled environment. Air-cooled units discharge warm air into the room from the back, so the site must allow that air to leave the machine. The manual states that 6 inches of clearance at the sides and back are required for adequate operation. It recommends 12 to 18 inches at the sides and top for good airflow and to obtain the most capacity. Airflow is in at the front and out at the back. The manual warns that minimal clearance at the sides, back and top can significantly reduce the ice capacity of air-cooled machines. It also describes using a baffle kit at the back when an air-cooled unit is installed with minimal side and top clearance.
Locate the machine away from heat-producing appliances and heating ducts, as the manual specifies. Water-cooled models discharge warm water into the building drain; allow space on both sides and above for service access. The manual does not provide a gas connection requirement for the C0630 in the supplied information.
Water and drain connections
The C0630 cabinet layout identifies a 3/8-inch FPT water inlet and a 3/4-inch FPT drain. The manual recommends 3/8-inch outside-diameter tubing for the water supply. All models require drain tubing. Water-cooled models have the additional 1/2-inch FPT condenser drain shown in the layout. The water-cooled cabinet layout also identifies a 3/8-inch FPT condenser water inlet. Check the actual unit configuration before connecting condenser water or drain lines.
Route drain tubing separately. The manual says not to tee the cuber drain into the bin drain and, on water-cooled units, not to tee the condenser drain into the reservoir or bin drain. Vent the reservoir drain; the manual describes a vertical vent extending about 8 to 10 inches at the back of the drain. Horizontal drain runs need a 1/4-inch fall per foot. Insulate drain tubing if it is in a humid environment, and follow applicable codes. The manual calls for connecting drains to the building drain with the required air gap to the drain receptacle.
The manual identifies this as an NSF-listed model and describes a 1-inch anti-backflow air break between the water inlet tube end and the highest possible reservoir water level. It says a backflow device is not required for the potable water inlet on this basis. Follow the manual and local requirements for the particular installation.
Electrical connection
The machine is supplied without a power cord because it is intended to be permanently connected. Use the dataplate on the back of the cabinet for the machine’s voltage, phase, minimum circuit ampacity and maximum fuse size. The manual says HACR-type circuit breakers may be used in place of fuses, extension cords are not permitted, and use of a licensed electrician is recommended. Electrical connections are made inside the junction box at the back of the machine. The family-wide acceptable voltage ranges are listed in the specifications above; they do not replace checking the specific unit’s dataplate.
Operation
The front-accessible indicator lights provide operating information, while the On and Off buttons operate the ice machine. The lower user-accessible panel duplicates the lights and switches on the controller. The manual notes that access to the switches may need to be restricted to prevent unauthorized operation; a fixed panel that cannot be opened is supplied in the hardware package for this purpose.
For the cleaning cycle, the manual instructs the operator to push and release the Clean button. The yellow Clean light blinks and the display shows “C.” The machine runs a harvest cycle, drains the reservoir and begins to refill it. During the sanitizing sequence, the display blinks “Ad1” to indicate the point to add sanitizer. After the machine circulates and drains the sanitizer, it stops and the display shows “O.” These are cleaning-cycle indications in the manual, not a complete list of service fault codes.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Air-cooled condenser filter
For air-cooled models, clean the air filter when it becomes visibly dirty; the manual says it needs cleaning more often than the other items. Pull the filter or filters from the front panel, wash off dust and grease, and return them to their original position. Do not operate the machine without the filter in place except during cleaning.
Machine cleaning and sanitizing
The manual’s cleaning instructions include inspecting the water distributor for restricted orifice holes, flushing out debris and opening restricted holes. Refit the distributor cover securely. Remove the ice thickness sensor by squeezing its mounting legs together, then wash the sensor and adjustment screw with ice machine scale remover solution and rinse with clean water. Wash the water distributor and curtain with ice machine cleaner solution.
Remove the water level sensor by squeezing its catches and pulling it up. Separate the probes from the housing, wash all surfaces with ice machine scale remover solution, rinse, and return the probes to their holder. The manual’s procedure then calls for a sanitizer solution made with 8 ounces of NuCalgon IMS II and 5 gallons of potable water at 105°F to 115°F, producing a 200 ppm active quaternary solution. Thoroughly wash the ice thickness sensor, water level sensor, curtain and water distributor with the sanitizer. Wash the interior surfaces of the freezing compartment, including the evaporator cover and right-side panel liner. Return the parts to their normal positions and ensure the water level and ice thickness sensors are completely dry.
The manual’s sequence continues by pushing and releasing Clean. When the display blinks “Ad1,” add sanitizer solution to the reservoir until it is full. The machine circulates the sanitizer, then drains and flushes it; the stated cycle takes 35 minutes. When the display shows “O” and the machine stops, return removed panels and covers to their original positions, then push and release On to resume ice making.
Ice storage bin
For bin cleaning, remove and discard all ice. The manual specifies mixing 7 ounces of Scotsman Clear 1 ice machine scale remover with 84 ounces of potable water, then washing the bin’s interior surfaces to remove mineral scale. Pour excess cleaner into the bin drain. Mix sanitizer, wash all interior surfaces of the bin, and pour excess sanitizer into the drain. The supplied source also specifies 10 ounces of Scotsman Clear 1 for cleaning a C0630 machine; use the current model-specific cleaning instructions and product label when carrying out the procedure.
Installation and upkeep checks
The manual’s final checklist includes confirming the unit is indoors in a controlled environment, has adequate cooling air and the correct electrical supply, and has all water and drain connections made. It also calls for checking that the unit is level, unpacking materials and tape have been removed, water pressure is adequate, drains are leak-free, the bin interior is clean or sanitized, water filter cartridges have been replaced where applicable, and required kits and adapters are installed.
Applications
The C0630 is intended for commercial ice production where a modular cuber can be installed over a compatible storage bin or dispenser. The manual’s application chart indicates that a bin or dispenser must accommodate the ice drop zone and, when present, the optional ultrasonic bin-level sensor. Some applications require an adapter. Check the full application chart and the exact bin or dispenser model before selecting supporting equipment; the manual cautions that not every bin or dispenser combination fits.
