About the Scotsman C0830

Overview

The Scotsman C0830 Prodigy Plus is a modular cube ice machine with a nominal capacity of 800 lb. It produces small or medium cubes: the medium cube measures 7/8 × 7/8 × 7/8 inch, and the small cube measures 7/8 × 7/8 × 3/8 inch. Scotsman lists air-cooled, water-cooled and remote-condenser options. Production depends on the configuration and test conditions, so use the figures below as capacity ratings rather than a guarantee of output in every installation.

The unit measures 30 × 24 × 29 inches in the product specification. The D Series manual lists a maximum top-panel width of 30.6 inches for the C0830 cabinet. The machine is modular and sits on a compatible ice storage bin or dispenser; it cannot be stacked.

Key Features

  • AutoAlert indicator lights: External lights communicate operating status and signal when descaling or sanitizing is due.
  • WaterSense adaptive purge control: The patented control reduces scale buildup and is intended to extend the time between cleanings.
  • Service access: Removable panels provide access to internal components. The air filter is reusable and removable from outside the machine.
  • Diagnostic display: A code display helps identify operating or service issues.
  • Optional Smart-Board: Adds NAFEM data protocol and operational data that can be displayed or transmitted remotely for early alerts and diagnosis. A network-capable version is also listed.
  • Optional Vari-Smart: An ultrasonic bin-level sensor allows ice levels to be programmed for up to seven days.

The sheet states this warranty applies in North, South and Central America and advises contacting the factory for other regions.
  • Energy qualification: Scotsman lists the C0830 Prodigy Plus under Energy Star qualified products.

Installation & Requirements

The D Series manual specifies indoor installation in a controlled environment. Air-cooled C0830 models draw air at the left side and discharge it at the back; they release warm air into the room. Water-cooled models discharge warm water to the building drain. The product specification sheet calls for 6 inches of space at the left, back and right sides for ventilation and utility connections. The manual states that 6 inches at the sides and back are required for adequate operation, and recommends 12–18 inches at the sides and top for good airflow and maximum capacity. It also advises locating the machine away from heat-producing appliances and heating ducts. Restricted airflow can significantly reduce air-cooled ice capacity.

The manual gives these environmental limits: air temperature 50–100°F, water temperature 40–100°F and water pressure 20–80 psi. Connect the machine to cold potable water. Scotsman recommends water filtration; if filtration is used, the manual says to filter water to the reservoir, not the condenser. The specification sheet identifies a 3/8-inch FPT machine water inlet and a 3/4-inch FPT drain. Route drain lines separately rather than teeing the reservoir drain into the bin drain. The manual calls for a vented reservoir drain and a 1/4-inch fall per foot on horizontal drain runs. It describes a 1-inch air gap at the potable-water inlet.

The machine is not supplied with a power cord and is intended for permanent connection. The electrical dataplate on the cabinet identifies the machine’s power requirements. Electrical connections are made in the rear junction box; the manual recommends a licensed electrician, prohibits extension cords and requires applicable electrical codes to be followed. The machine needs a properly protected circuit. Check the individual dataplate for the exact voltage, phase, minimum circuit ampacity and maximum fuse size.

Operation

The machine has accessible On and Off switches. Its control system includes front-visible Power, Status, Water and De-scale/Sanitize indicator lights, along with a code display. The manual describes a manual Harvest switch that can trigger a harvest cycle and a Clean switch used to initiate and finish descaling or sanitizing cycles. Component indicator lights report conditions such as water level, readiness for harvest and curtain-switch position.

The manual describes the Status light as green during correct ice-making operation and flashing red when a malfunction is detected. The Water light flashes red if the reservoir does not fill within the allowed time. The De-scale/Sanitize light indicates when the controller determines that cleaning is due. Optional Vari-Smart control can program bin ice levels for up to seven days; Smart-Board can provide additional operating data for diagnosis.

Cleaning & Maintenance

AutoAlert lights signal when descaling or sanitizing is due. The Clean switch is used to initiate and finish the machine’s descaling or sanitizing cycles; follow the model’s user manual for the prescribed procedure. WaterSense adaptive purge control reduces scale buildup, while the removable reusable air filter can be taken out from the exterior. Removable machine panels provide access to internal components. Scotsman recommends water filtration, and the manual specifies that filtration should serve the reservoir rather than the condenser.

Troubleshooting

The D Series and Prodigy service-manual troubleshooting material identifies checks for several no-ice or low-capacity conditions. If the machine has no power, check the breaker or fuse. If it shuts down because the reservoir takes too long to fill, check that the water supply is on. For a maximum-freeze-time shutdown, the manual lists water leaks and directs checks of the purge valve, curtain, sump and pump hose. A dirty condenser, restricted installation location or intake air that is too hot can reduce production. The manual also lists a dirty or disconnected ice-thickness sensor, a dirty water distributor, an inlet water valve leaking during freeze, hot water reaching the machine and an incomplete harvest among possible causes to investigate.

For water-cooled or remote systems, the service material also identifies condenser-water or condenser-related checks, including a high-pressure cutout and, on remote equipment, condenser fan operation and connections. These checks are service diagnostics, not a substitute for the model’s complete technical manual. The machine’s code display and indicator lights can help communicate operating status and detected issues.

Applications

The C0830 is a fit for commercial foodservice operations that need cube ice for mixed drinks and other service uses. Its modular format is intended for installation on a compatible storage bin or ice dispenser. Scotsman lists small and medium cube options and multiple condenser configurations, allowing a buyer to compare ice type, available installation conditions and required production capacity against the machine’s rated figures.
