About the Scotsman C1030
Overview
The Scotsman C1030 Prodigy Plus is a modular commercial cube ice machine with a nominal 1,000 lb per 24-hour production rating. It makes medium or small cubes and is intended to sit on a compatible ice storage bin or ice dispenser; the machine itself does not provide the storage capacity. Its cabinet measures 30” W x 24” D x 29” H. Air-cooled, water-cooled and remote-condenser configurations are listed for the C1030 family.
Published production depends on operating conditions and condenser configuration. Scotsman’s product sheet lists, for air-cooled models, 1,077 lb per 24 hours at 70°F air and 50°F water, and 816 lb at 90°F air and 70°F water. For water-cooled models, the listed figures are 1,029 lb and 929 lb at those respective conditions. For remote models, the sheet lists 996 lb and 869 lb. These are production figures, not bin capacities.
Key Features
- AutoAlert indicator lights: External lights communicate machine status and indicate when attention such as descaling or sanitizing is due.
- WaterSense purge control: The patented adaptive purge control reduces scale buildup, helping extend the time between cleanings.
- Accessible service points: The removable front panel provides access to internal components. The air filter is removable from outside the unit.
- Optional Smart-Board: Adds NAFEM data protocol and operational information for on-screen display or remote transmission, supporting earlier alerts and diagnosis.
- Optional Vari-Smart ice level control: An ultrasonic sensor lets operators program bin ice levels for up to seven days.
- Cube choices: Medium cubes measure 7/8” x 7/8” x 7/8”; small cubes measure 7/8” x 7/8” x 3/8”. Scotsman describes cube ice as a common form suited to mixed drinks.
- Energy efficiency: The product sheet marks the C1030 as ENERGY STAR and describes the Prodigy cuber as using less energy and water than other cube ice machines.

Installation & Requirements
The C1030 is an indoor machine intended for a controlled environment. It is a modular cuber and must be installed on a compatible ice storage bin or ice dispenser; the user manual says the product cannot be stacked. The product sheet calls for 6” of space at the left, back and right for ventilation and utility connections. The manual also says 6” at the sides and back is required for adequate operation, space above and at the sides is needed for service access, and 12–18” at the left is recommended for good airflow and maximum capacity. Air enters at the left and discharges from the back; air-cooled units release warm air into the room. Keep the machine away from heat-producing appliances and heating ducts, as specified in the manual.
The listed electrical configurations use 208–230 V, 60 Hz, single-phase power, with circuit and fuse requirements varying by condenser type and cube-size model. The machine is permanently connected and is not supplied with a power cord; the manual recommends a licensed electrician. It specifies a two-pole fused disconnect with at least 3 mm between open contacts, grounding, and compliance with applicable local codes. The dataplate on the cabinet gives the unit’s electrical requirements. Extension cords are not permitted.
Connect the water supply to the machine inlet; 3/8” OD tubing is recommended in the manual. Attach drain tubing to the machine drain and route it to the building drain in accordance with local code. The manual calls for rigid drain tubes routed separately: do not tee the machine drain into the bin drain, and do not combine the water-cooled condenser drain with the reservoir or bin drain. Vent the reservoir drain; horizontal drain runs require a 1/4” fall per foot. Scotsman recommends water filtration for all ice machines. If filtration is used, the manual says to filter water to the reservoir, not to the condenser, and to install a new cartridge if the existing filters were used with a prior machine.
Operation
Front-accessible indicator lights and on-off controls provide operating status and control. AutoAlert lights communicate machine status and signal when descaling, sanitizing and other attention is due. The manual identifies On, Off, Harvest and Clean controls. When the bin is full, the display shows “b”; the cleaning instructions direct the operator to use Off if the bin-full indication is present. Optional Vari-Smart control provides programmable ice levels, while optional Smart-Board equipment supplies additional operating data for diagnosis.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The manual makes the user responsible for keeping both the ice machine and storage bin sanitary. It calls for cleaning and sanitizing the machine’s water system at least twice per year, and sanitizing the bin as often as local health codes require and whenever the machine is cleaned and sanitized. Use an ice-machine scale remover to dissolve mineral buildup; the manual’s cleaning procedure specifies Scotsman Clear 1. Follow the product directions and the machine manual when handling cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
The manual’s water-system procedure begins by removing the front panel and evaporator cover and removing ice from the bin. If the machine is operating, press and release Harvest and let that cycle finish; if the bin-full indicator is displayed, press Off. Press Clean to drain and refill the reservoir, then add 8 oz of Scotsman Clear 1 and allow it to circulate for at least 10 minutes. The manual also describes washing the ice thickness sensor, water level sensor, sump cover, curtain, water distributor and interior freezing-compartment surfaces with an approved sanitizer solution. After circulating sanitizer, it directs the operator to flush the water system for at least 20 minutes before returning the machine to ice making. Sanitize the bin separately after removing and discarding its ice.
For air-cooled models, pull the air filter forward, wash off dust and grease, and return it to its original position. Do not operate the machine without the filter except during cleaning. If the unit has been operated without a filter, the manual says the air-cooled condenser fins will need cleaning and that a refrigeration technician is required for this service. The front, top and side panels are stainless steel; the manual says to clean them with a good-quality stainless-steel cleaner.
Troubleshooting
Use the indicator lights and, if fitted, the Smart-Board diagnostic information to identify operating attention. AutoAlert signals when descaling or sanitizing is due, and the manual provides the cleaning procedure above. For an air-cooled machine with reduced airflow concerns, check that the removable filter is present and clean; the manual cautions against operating without it. It states that condenser-fin cleaning after operation without a filter requires a refrigeration technician. The available manual text identifies a “What to do before calling for service” section but does not provide its troubleshooting steps, so no additional fault-specific repair procedure is stated here.
Applications
The C1030’s medium or small cube options suit commercial ice service such as mixed-drink preparation and general foodservice beverage stations. Its modular format allows it to be paired with a compatible storage bin or ice dispenser, selected separately to suit the installation’s storage and dispensing arrangement.
