About the Traulsen G12010
Overview
The Traulsen G12010 is a one-section, self-contained reach-in freezer in the G-Series. It has a solid, full-height door and is intended for kitchens that need frozen product close to food preparation or service areas. The listed capacity is 24.2 cu. ft. and the cabinet is 29 7/8 inches wide.
Its stainless steel front and door are paired with corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum sides and an anodized aluminum interior, according to the product listing. The freezer uses a microprocessor control and an automatic defrost program, as described in the Traulsen G-Series operating information.
Key Features
- Self-contained refrigeration: The refrigeration system is built into the reach-in cabinet.
- One-section format: A single cabinet provides frozen storage in a compact, upright footprint.
- Solid full-height door: The listed G12010 has one full-length solid door with a right-hand hinge. G-Series product information describes a self-closing door with a stay-open feature at 120 degrees.
- Commercial cabinet construction: Product information lists stainless steel on the front and door, corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum sides, and an anodized aluminum interior.
- Microprocessor control: G-Series operating information describes a three-digit display, temperature set-point settings, sensor-temperature viewing, and automatic freezer defrost control.

Confirm the electrical data on the unit’s serial tag before connection. Traulsen’s manual explains that the serial tag records the particular unit’s voltage, frequency, phase, current, minimum circuit ampacity, and maximum overcurrent protection.
Installation & Requirements
Choose a location away from extreme heat or cold. The G-Series manual calls for either at least 12 inches of clearance above the condensing unit or unrestricted airflow at the back of the cabinet. It also notes that 12 inches of overhead clearance is needed for certain maintenance tasks. Keep enough space beside the unit for the door to use its stay-open feature, and allow the door to open at least 90 degrees for the maximum clear door width.
Most self-contained models are supplied with a cord and plug attached. The manual directs operators to use a dedicated, grounded electrical outlet, never remove the grounding prong, and never use an extension cord. It specifies a separate, dedicated 20-amp circuit for the covered equipment; check the G12010 serial tag and local electrical requirements, and have electrical work completed by a qualified electrician. Verify that the available supply voltage matches the unit’s serial tag before connecting it.
An on/off toggle switch is described for G-Series units. The manual locates it on top of the unit, mounted beside the evaporator housing, and says it is shipped in the on position. Check the switch position as part of setup.
Operation
The Traulsen G-Series microprocessor control regulates cabinet operation. The operating manual describes a three-digit display, Fahrenheit and Celsius indicators, a defrost icon, and customer parameters for the thermostat’s high and low set points. It gives typical freezer settings of -3°F to 0°F for the high point and -6°F to -4°F for the low point. Those are typical ranges in the manual, not a substitute for checking the G12010’s current settings or food-storage requirements. The manual notes that the high and low set points cannot be the same and should differ by at least 1 to 2 degrees.
G-Series freezer operation uses automatic, time-activated defrost, with temperature or time termination. The operating manual says the factory program is set for six evenly spaced defrost cycles in a 24-hour period. During defrost, the display reads “dEF,” the compressor and evaporator fans stop, and the coil defrost heater operates. When the coil reaches 70°F on models with electric defrost, the heater switches off and compressor operation resumes. The evaporator fans restart after a delay; the manual describes a temperature delay at 32°F or a time delay, whichever occurs first. Defrost heat is confined to the coil enclosure to limit warming in the food zone.
The manual also explains how to start a manual defrost through the customer parameters and how to set up to four defrost lockouts. Each lockout begins at a selected time and prevents a defrost cycle for two hours. These control instructions are general G-Series information; consult the unit’s control and serial information before changing settings.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Disconnect electrical power before cleaning any part of the unit. Traulsen’s operating manual identifies regular condenser cleaning as important to reliable operation and efficiency. It describes removing the screws at the bottom of the front louver assembly, lifting the panel to access the front-facing condenser, and cleaning accumulated lint and dust from the condenser fins. Restore the panel after cleaning.
For the stainless steel exterior, the manual recommends warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth, wiping in the direction of the metal grain. Avoid strong detergents and gritty or abrasive cleaners, which can mar or scratch the surface. Do not use cleaners containing chlorine, which may promote corrosion. The manual also cautions against splashing water on the unit while cleaning.
Inspect the door and gasket as part of routine care. The G-Series manual identifies a poor door or gasket seal as a possible cause of a warm food compartment. If the gasket is dirty or damaged, clean or replace it as appropriate; use mild soap and water and avoid cleaners containing chlorine or chlorides, as stated in the supplied Traulsen maintenance information.
Troubleshooting
If the condensing unit does not start, the Traulsen operating manual recommends checking whether the cord and plug are disconnected and whether the control temperature setting is appropriate. Also check that the power switch is on and that the circuit breaker or fuse is functioning.
If the condensing unit runs for prolonged periods or continuously, check whether the doors close properly and whether the condenser is dirty. The manual also lists an iced evaporator coil or a refrigerant shortage as possible causes. It gives instructions for starting a manual defrost; refrigerant issues should be referred to service.
If the cabinet is too warm, check the door and gasket seal, the control setting, and condenser cleanliness. The manual notes that adding a large quantity of warm product or leaving the door open for a long period can require recovery time. If the cabinet is too cold, the manual identifies a recent load of very cold or frozen product as one possible cause and advises allowing the cabinet time to stabilize before changing the control setting.
Before requesting service, the manual suggests checking the power cord, fuse or circuit breaker, and power switch. If the problem remains, contact an authorized Traulsen service agent or Traulsen service and provide the model and serial number. Use the wiring diagram for service work and follow the unit’s serial-tag electrical information.
Applications
The G12010 is suited to commercial kitchens that need a single upright freezer for frozen ingredients, prepared items, or back-of-house inventory. Its one-section format can serve restaurant kitchens, catering operations, and institutional foodservice areas where staff need direct access to frozen stock. Measure the intended location and check the door swing, airflow, and electrical supply against the cabinet and serial-tag requirements before specifying the unit.
