Overview

The Traulsen G21000 is a two-section commercial reach-in refrigerator with four half-height glass doors and a listed net capacity of 46.51 cu. ft. Its standard operating temperature is 34–38°F. The microprocessor control has a 3-digit LED display, with the temperature available in Fahrenheit or Celsius. The glass doors make stored product visible, while LED interior lighting helps staff check contents during service.

The refrigeration system is self-contained and top-mounted. It uses R-290 refrigerant and a thermostatic expansion valve, and the evaporator sits outside the food zone to preserve interior storage space. Installation & Requirements

For operating airflow, the G-Series manual calls for at least 12 in. of overhead clearance above the condensing unit or unrestricted airflow at the back. The G21000 product description also specifies 12 in. above the cabinet. The manual advises locating the unit away from extreme heat or cold and allowing enough space at the side wall for the door stay-open feature at 120 degrees. The door must be able to open at least 90 degrees to provide the stated clear door width.

Operation

The unit is supplied with a microprocessor control. The G21000’s listed holding range is 34–38°F; the display can show Fahrenheit or Celsius. A supplied Traulsen G-Series operation manual describes customer access for controller adjustments using the code 0, A, 1. In that manual’s sequence, press SET to enter Customer/Service Access, use SET to move through the code positions, use the arrow keys to select A and then 1, and press SET to reach the customer/service parameters. The manual says the high and low set points are factory preset and need not be changed unless the operator chooses to adjust them. It gives typical refrigerator high set points of 36–40°F and low set points of 32–34°F; the two set points cannot be the same and must differ by at least 1–2 degrees. Follow the documentation supplied for the specific control fitted to the cabinet if its interface differs.

To change a set point in the manual’s procedure, scroll to Thermostat Set Point High or Thermostat Set Point Low, press SET, use the arrow keys to select the desired value, then press SET to save. The control returns to normal operation after approximately 30 seconds without input. Other customer parameters listed in the G-Series manual include temperature scale, 24-hour clock, date, daylight savings time, manual defrost, defrost lockouts, room-temperature offset, evaporator-coil sensor temperature and cabinet-air temperature. The sensor temperature values are for viewing, not adjustment.

The operation manual says refrigerators do not require manual defrosting during normal operation. They have an off-cycle defrost about once an hour; the control displays “dEF” during this cycle, which generally lasts 3–10 minutes. The manual also describes a manual defrost control option, but it should be used only as directed in the unit’s applicable operating instructions.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The supplied G-Series manual identifies regular condenser-coil cleaning as important for reliable operation and efficiency. Before cleaning, disconnect electrical power. To access the front-facing condenser, remove the two screws at the bottom of the front louver assembly and pivot the panel upward. The G21000 product information also identifies the condenser as front-facing and accessible for cleaning.

For the stainless steel exterior, the supplied Traulsen service-manual guidance calls for warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth, wiping in the direction of the metal grain. Avoid strong detergents, gritty or abrasive cleaners, and cleaners containing chlorine, which may promote corrosion. The G-Series operation manual says to inspect the door gaskets and clean them with mild soap and water; it warns against cleaners containing chlorine or chlorides. Replace a gasket if inspection shows it needs replacement. Disconnect power before cleaning components, and avoid splashing the unit with water.

Troubleshooting

The supplied G-Series operation manual lists these checks for refrigeration concerns:

• Condensing unit will not start: Check whether the cord and plug are disconnected, then check the control temperature setting.
• Unit runs for prolonged periods or continuously: Check that doors close properly; clean a dirty condenser or filter; and check whether the evaporator coil is iced. The manual directs users to its manual-defrost instructions for an iced coil. If refrigerant is short, call for service.
• Food compartment is too warm: Check the doors and gaskets for a proper seal. A large recent load of warm food or a door left open for a long time can require recovery time. Check whether the control setting is too high and readjust using the manual’s procedure; check that the condensing coil is clean.
• Still not operating properly: The manual advises contacting an authorized Traulsen service agent. For service or wiring-diagram assistance, it says to provide the model and serial number.

Applications
