About the Traulsen G22013
Overview
The Traulsen G22013 is a two-section, full-height solid-door reach-in freezer in the G Series. Its two doors are hinged left/left. The self-contained refrigeration system is mounted at the top of the cabinet, and the freezer has a stated net capacity of 46.02 cu. ft. The unit is supplied with six epoxy-coated wire shelves, a microprocessor control with an LED temperature display, and six-inch locking casters.
The G Series specification describes a standard operating temperature of 0 to -5°F, adjustable as low as -10°F in ambient conditions of 90°F or less. The operation manual also describes typical freezer controller set-point ranges; those high and low points are separate controller parameters and are not the same as a single cabinet operating-temperature range.
Key Features
- Two-section storage: Full-height solid doors and six standard shelves provide separate shelving areas across the cabinet.
- Microprocessor control: Water-resistant control with a three-digit LED display and Fahrenheit or Celsius display capability.
- Self-contained refrigeration: Top-mounted system using R-290 refrigerant, with a thermostatic expansion valve, air-cooled hermetic compressor and evaporator coil outside the food zone.
- Front-facing condenser: The condenser is accessible behind the one-piece louver assembly for cleaning.
- Cabinet construction: Stainless steel front and doors; anodized aluminum sides, interior and door liners; galvanized steel top, back and bottom.
- Door and interior details: Solid doors have cylinder locks, EZ-Clean gaskets, self-closing cam-lift hinges with a stay-open feature at 120 degrees, and concealed hinge switches that activate interior LED lighting. Anti-condensate heaters are located behind each door opening.
- Loading: Standard interior includes three epoxy-coated wire shelves per section. The recommended load limit is 225 lb per shelf.

Installation & Requirements
Choose a location away from extreme heat or cold. The manual says to allow enough clearance at the side wall for the door stay-open feature at 120 degrees. The doors must open at least 90 degrees to provide the maximum clear door width. The self-contained condensing unit needs an adequate supply of air: the manual calls for at least 12 in. of overhead clearance or unrestricted airflow at the back. The specification notes that 12 in. of top clearance is preferred for performance and service access.
The freezer is supplied with a 9 ft. cord and NEMA 5-15P plug. Check the unit’s serial tag for its electrical information and connect the unit to a suitable grounded outlet. The manual cautions not to cut or remove the grounding prong or use an extension cord. An on/off toggle switch is mounted on top of the unit beside the evaporator housing; the manual says the unit ships with this switch in the ON position. If electrical service work is needed, consult the wiring diagram for the unit. The manual directs users to contact Traulsen Service with the model and serial number if a wiring diagram is required.
Optional interior accessories listed for the G Series include trayslides for sheet pans or food pans, additional shelves, 4 1/8 in. casters in place of the standard casters, and 6 in. legs. These are accessories, not part of the standard shelf configuration described above.
Operation
The G22013 uses an electronic microprocessor control. Its display can show temperatures in Fahrenheit or Celsius. The freezer runs an automatic defrost program; the operation manual states that the controller is preset for six evenly spaced defrost cycles in each 24-hour period. During defrost, the display reads “dEF.” The manual describes electric defrost ending when the coil sensor reaches 70°F; after defrost, the evaporator fans are delayed until the coil temperature reaches 32°F or the time delay ends, whichever comes first. Do not treat the defrost display as a fault by itself.
The operation manual gives typical freezer controller ranges of -3 to 0°F for the thermostat set-point high and -6 to -4°F for the set-point low. Both values are factory preset. The high and low set points cannot be identical; the manual says there will be at least a 1–2 degree difference between them.
Adjusting the set point
To access customer parameters, press SET to reach Customer/Service Access, then press SET again. Follow the manual’s code-entry sequence for 0, A, 1: use SET to move through the flashing digit positions, use the arrow key to select the required character, and press SET to confirm each position. When the controller displays Thermostat Set Point High, press SET, adjust with the arrow keys, then press SET to save. To change the low point, scroll with the arrow keys to Thermostat Set Point Low, press SET, adjust the value, and press SET again. The display returns to normal operation after about 30 seconds without input.
The manual also lists customer/service parameters for temperature scale, the 24-hour clock, date, daylight savings time, room temperature offset, evaporator coil sensor temperature, cabinet air temperature, manual defrost and four defrost lockouts. The sensor-temperature parameters are for viewing; the manual says their readings cannot be adjusted. Follow the manual for other parameter changes rather than changing settings without understanding their purpose.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The operation manual identifies regular condenser cleaning as important for reliable service and efficient operation. Disconnect electrical power before cleaning. To access the front-facing condenser, remove the two screws at the bottom of the louver assembly, one on each side, then lift and pivot the louver panel to expose the condenser. The manual identifies lint and dust accumulation as material to clear from the finned condenser. Restore the louver assembly after cleaning.
For the stainless steel exterior, use warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Wipe with the grain of the metal. Avoid strong detergents and gritty or abrasive cleaners, which can mar or scratch the finish. Do not use cleaners containing chlorine, which may promote corrosion. The service information also advises avoiding splashes of water on the unit’s components.
Inspect the door gaskets periodically for dirt, tears, mold or wear. The manual gives a three-month interval for gasket inspection and recommends cleaning with mild soap and water. Do not use cleaners containing chlorine or chlorides; replace a gasket as needed. The manual’s daily cleaning procedure calls for a soft cloth and a solution of 1 tablespoon (15 mL) baking soda to 1 pint (473.2 mL) water, applied with a dampened cloth and wiped in the direction of the metal grain.
Troubleshooting
- Condensing unit does not start: Check whether the cord and plug are disconnected, and check the control temperature setting. The manual’s service checks also include confirming that the electrical cord is plugged in, the fuse is intact or circuit breaker is on, and the power switch is ON. If the unit still does not operate properly, contact an authorized Traulsen service agent or Traulsen’s service department.
- Condensing unit runs for a long time or continuously: Check that the doors close properly. The manual also identifies a dirty condenser or filter and an iced evaporator coil as possible causes. Clean the condenser as described above. For an iced coil, consult the manual’s manual-defrost instructions. A refrigerant shortage requires service.
- Food compartment is too warm: Check that the doors and gaskets seal properly. A large load of warm food or a door left open for an extended period can require recovery time. Check whether the control setting is too high and verify that the condensing coil is clean.
- Food compartment is too cold: The manual notes that adding a large quantity of very cold or frozen food may affect compartment temperature. The available troubleshooting excerpt does not provide the remainder of this remedy, so consult the complete unit manual or a qualified service agent for further diagnosis.
The operation manual says a manual defrost can be started through the controller’s Start Manual Defrost parameter. It overrides defrost lockout settings. Use the manual’s parameter-access procedure and instructions rather than repeatedly initiating defrost as a substitute for diagnosing a persistent icing or cooling problem.
Applications
The G22013 suits commercial kitchens that need a full-height, two-section freezer for frozen ingredients, prepared products or back-of-house inventory. Its six standard shelves support organized storage, while its solid doors and reach-in format suit kitchens where staff need access to stored items without opening a larger walk-in storage area. The front-facing condenser and removable louver provide access for the cleaning procedure described in the operation manual.
