About the Vulcan Hart 1ER50CF
Overview
The Vulcan Hart 1ER50CF is a freestanding commercial electric fryer with one 50 lb capacity vat. Programmable computer controls, ten product keys and ten countdown timers help operators manage repeatable batches during busy service. Its built-in KleenScreen PLUS filtration system filters cooking oil, while the stainless steel cabinet and 16-gauge stainless steel fry tank provide a durable commercial construction.
The controls provide a temperature range of 200°F to 390°F, with stated accuracy within ±2°F. Multiple fat-melt modes and fast heat recovery support day-to-day frying operation. The fryer is NSF listed.
Key Features
- 50 lb fry capacity: One full-size vat for commercial batch frying.

Installation & Requirements
Installation and initial field start-up are for personnel qualified to install electric equipment. Before installation, check the fryer’s data plate against the site’s electrical service. The product specification identifies this model as 208 V, 60 Hz, three-phase, with 17 kW input. The 1ER50 series electrical table specifies 47 nominal amps per line at 208 V, three-phase. Each tank requires its own separate power supply.
The manual calls for an adequate ventilation system for commercial cooking equipment and refers to NFPA No. 96. It specifies 6 in. clearance at both sides and the rear when adjacent to combustible construction, and a minimum 16 in. clearance to adjacent open-top burner units. The fryer is manufactured for commercial installation and use, not residential use.
Operation
Use the computer control to select programmed products or set the required frying temperature within the 200°F–390°F range. The controls provide ten programmable product keys and ten countdown timers. Multiple fat-melt modes are available for bringing solid shortening up to temperature, and the fryer is specified with fast heat recovery. For the ER50 basket, the manual recommends a 2.5 lb product load per basket. When a batch is finished, remove the product and hang the basket on the rear hanger.
Keep the fryer powered on for the filtration procedure. The manual instructs operators to fit the drain extension, direct it into a suitable filter or discard container, remove heavy debris with the crumb scoop, and open the drain valve slowly. The heating elements switch off automatically when the drain valve is opened. After draining, use the tank brush to remove remaining debris, close the valve and refill with shortening. Fill to at least the MIN mark and no higher than halfway between the MIN and MAX marks; allow for oil expansion as it heats. Start heating only after filling is complete.
Do not move the fryer with shortening in the tank. Hot oil and fryer parts can cause burns. The manual specifically warns not to run water or boil-out solution through the filter and motor/pump.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The manual recommends filtering shortening at least once a day. Filter while the oil is between 250°F and 350°F; a cold fryer will not drain properly, and shortening in the cold zone can remain solid if it has not been heated adequately. Remove heavy debris with the crumb scoop before draining and use the tank brush to clear remaining particles from the empty tank. Follow the fill-level instructions before restarting the fryer.
For the boil-out procedure, the manual says to boil out weekly or when the oil is replaced. Drain the tank, close the drain valve, and fill the tank with water and a boil-out solid degreaser according to the cleaner’s package directions. Keep the solution between the MIN and MAX marks. Set the temperature to 200°F; the manual notes that water boils at 212°F and warns against an overly active boil. Use the tank brush on the sides, bottom and heat exchanger tubes. Drain the solution using the Boil-Out ByPass extension, not the filter system. The procedure then calls for refilling with water and 1 cup (1/4 L) of vinegar to neutralize alkaline cleaner residue, draining, rinsing thoroughly with clear hot water, and drying the tank completely. Do not use chlorine or sulfate/sulfide cleaners.
For filter-pan cleaning, the manual instructs operators to remove the filter components, wash the filter pan, crumb basket and screen components with dishwashing detergent and warm water, rinse them completely and dry them with a clean cloth. The metal screen insert is dishwasher safe. Where a KleenScreen PLUS fabric envelope is used, the manual recommends replacing it at each oil change; its stated guidance is 10–14 days depending on oil use. Do not wash the fabric envelope. The reusable screen insert can be washed and dried before fitting it into a replacement envelope.
Troubleshooting
The manual describes thermal-overload protection for the filtration motor/pump. It senses excess heat that can occur during extended filtering or under a heavy load. The supplied manual text does not provide a reset procedure, so no reset steps are specified here. The drain valve interlock also switches off the heating elements when the drain valve is open or the elements are lifted.
Applications
The 1ER50CF suits commercial kitchens that need a single-vat electric fryer for menu items such as fries, breaded foods and other fried-to-order products. Its ten programmable product keys and countdown timers can support repeatable cook cycles, while the 50 lb oil capacity and built-in filtration system fit kitchens with regular frying and oil-care tasks. Confirm the 208 V, three-phase electrical requirement and the fryer’s dimensions against the intended kitchen location before purchase.
