About the Vulcan Hart V36
Overview
The Vulcan Hart V36 is a 36-inch commercial gas range with six open burners and a standard oven. Product information identifies the oven as standard and says the six burners each have their own pilot. The standard oven has two rack positions and is supplied with one oven rack. The product listing identifies the unit as used; its SKU is V36-1C-USED. The product information describes a natural-gas model, but the installation manual also covers V36-family ranges configured for natural gas or propane. Confirm the gas type on the range’s rating plate before connecting it.
The installation and operation manual applies to the V36 alongside several related V Series models. Follow the range’s rating plate and the instructions for the actual unit, particularly when verifying fuel type and installation requirements.
Key Features
- Six open burners: The product information identifies six burners, each with its own pilot.
- Standard oven: The range combines open-top cooking with an oven for baking, roasting, reheating and other oven work described in the manual.
- Oven rack arrangement: The standard oven has two rack positions and is supplied with one oven rack.
- Gas configuration: The product listing describes a natural-gas model. The V Series manual covers natural-gas and propane setups, so verify the individual range’s rating plate.
- Construction: The merged product specifications identify stainless steel construction and a silver colour.

Installation & Requirements
The manual says to check the rating plate inside the lower kick panel before installation and confirm that the range’s gas supply type agrees with the installation supply. Do not proceed if the requirements do not match. The manual identifies natural gas and propane as possible fuel types for the V Series; the product listing describes this model as natural gas.
The stated gas connection is a 3/4-inch (19 mm), 14 FPT ANSI Schedule #40 standard pipe. The manual says to connect the gas supply to clean, unobstructed piping and install a gas shutoff valve in the gas line ahead of the range. It also describes installation of the supplied pressure regulator by a qualified installer. The regulator must match the gas type shown on the rating plate, be mounted horizontally, and have its arrow pointing in the direction of gas flow toward the range. Do not obstruct the regulator’s leak limiter.
Before lighting, the manual instructs installers to check gas-supply joints for leaks using soap and water solution—not an open flame—and then fully purge gas piping receiving gas to remove air. It also says to verify that the thermocouple is seated securely in the safety valve and tightened one-quarter turn past finger-tight; overtightening can damage the thermocouple or safety magnet. Gas installation, adjustments and initial start-up should be handled by qualified personnel, as specified in the manual.
The manual gives these clearances: from combustible construction, 12 inches (304 mm) at the sides and 10 inches (253 mm) at the rear; from non-combustible construction, 0 inches at the sides and 6 inches (152 mm) at the rear. It specifies a minimum front clearance of 40 inches (1016 mm). The installation location must allow service access and must not obstruct combustion or ventilation airflow. The manual calls for adequate air in the room for burner combustion. Its electrical-service check applies to convection oven series ranges; the V36 product information identifies a standard oven.
Operation
Lighting the open-top pilots and burners
The manual reserves pilot-lighting adjustments for an authorized Vulcan-Hart installation or service person. For open-top burners, its lighting instructions say to turn on the main gas supply, wait 30 seconds, and light the open-top pilot with a taper. If the pilot does not light, turn off the main gas supply, wait 5 minutes and repeat the procedure. Turn one open-top burner valve on to remove air from the gas line, then turn it off when gas begins to flow.
For nightly shutdown, turn the burner valve off; the pilot remains lit. For complete shutdown, turn the burner valve off and turn off the main gas supply.
Lighting and shutting down the standard oven
The manual says to light the open-top pilots before lighting the oven pilot. For the standard oven, it instructs the operator to set the thermostat to OFF and wait 5 minutes, then remove the lower panel. Depress the red button on the safety valve and light the pilot through the observation area. Hold the button down for at least 30 seconds; when released, the pilot should remain lit. Replace the lower panel and set the thermostat to the desired temperature. If the pilot goes out, repeat the procedure.
For nightly oven shutdown, turn the oven thermostat OFF. For complete shutdown, turn the oven thermostat OFF and turn off the main gas supply.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The manual cautions that the range and its parts are hot during operation, cleaning and servicing. For the open-top cast-iron grates, it instructs operators to wash with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean, water-absorbent towel. Immediately after drying, lightly season the grates with liquid vegetable oil or spray-type cooking oil. After seasoning, replace the grates, turn all open-top sections to LOW and allow them to burn for at least 15 minutes before putting cookware on the range. Season the grates after each cleaning; the manual warns that failing to season them can cause rust.
For weekly burner care, the manual says to boil the burners in a washing-soda solution, then rinse and dry the parts thoroughly. It notes that flash rusting may occur and says this is normal and does not affect performance or prepared food. When reinstalling a burner, ensure its burner head is properly connected. Do not light a pilot or turn a burner valve on with the burner head removed.
For the standard oven, the manual says new units may have manufacturing odours. It describes clearing them by setting the thermostat to 500°F (260°C) and operating the oven empty for 30 to 45 minutes. When the range is cool, check the vent for obstructions every six months, as directed by the manual.
Troubleshooting
- Open-top pilot fails to light: Turn off the main gas supply, wait 5 minutes, and repeat the manual’s pilot-lighting procedure. The manual says to have pilot-lighting adjustments performed by an authorized Vulcan-Hart installation or service person.
- Oven pilot goes out: Repeat the standard-oven pilot-lighting procedure, including holding the red safety-valve button down for at least 30 seconds.
- Gas supply or range requirements do not match: Do not proceed with installation if the gas supply type does not agree with the rating plate. The manual says to contact the dealer or Vulcan-Hart Company.
- Cooking problems associated with leveling: The manual says an uneven floor can cause cooking problems when the range is on casters, which are non-adjustable. It instructs installers to check level as part of installation.
Applications
The six open burners support stovetop cooking with cookware, while the standard oven supports the baking and oven-cooking tasks covered in the manual. Its examples include cakes, cookies, breads, pies, casseroles, baked potatoes, pizzas, broiling or oven-frying foods, and reheating prepared foods. These examples are manual guidance, not a guarantee of a particular cooking time or result; the manual describes times and temperatures as approximate.
