About the Bunn AXIOM
Overview
BUNN describes the Axiom® lineup as an industry leader in commercial brewing applications, and the platform backs that position with digital brew control (DBC), an LED display standard across all models, and a configuration for nearly any coffee service. The family covered here includes the AXIOM® 15-3 (12-cup automatic brewer with 3 lower warmers, #38700.0002), the AXIOM® 4/2 Twin (4 upper / 2 lower warmers), the AXIOM® APS airpot system (#38700.0037), the AXIOM® DV-APS dual-voltage airpot system (#38700.0010), the AXIOM® DV-TC thermal model (#38700.0011) and the AXIOM® DV-3 dual-voltage model with 2 upper / 1 lower warmer. Per BUNN's service & repair manual, the equipment brews a half-gallon batch of coffee into an awaiting dispenser and may include a hot water faucet for allied beverage use.
Key Features
- LED display — standard across all Axiom models, per BUNN's family overview.
- Digital brew control (DBC) — listed on the Axiom line; the DV-TC specification page lists DBC: Yes.
- Programmable pre-infusion, pulse brew and digital temperature control — BUNN's stated extraction controls for the Axiom DV-3.
- BrewLOGIC® technology — for high lime areas, calculates flow rate and adjusts brew time to maintain consistent pot levels.
- Cold brew lock-out and automatic warmer time-out — ensure high quality, fresh-tasting coffee.
- Energy-saver mode — reduces tank temperature during idle periods.
- Front-of-machine programming — simplifies installation.
- SplashGard® funnel — deflects hot liquids away from the hand.
- Hot water faucet — for allied beverage use; the AXIOM-APS spec sheet lists an upper faucet.
- Airpot brewing — brews directly into 1.9 to 3L airpots; the airpot keeps coffee hot and fresh for hours and is easily transported to remote meeting rooms, breakfast bars and similar locations.
- Stainless finish with black plastic funnel and plumbed water access, per the AXIOM-APS specification sheet.
- Drawing support — 2D CAD, Revit and KLC files are listed for the AXIOM-APS; 2D CAD is also noted as available for the DV-APS and DV-TC.

Operation
Per the service & repair manual, the brewer produces a half-gallon batch of coffee into an awaiting dispenser. The brew funnel and server must be in place before the brew valve is activated — the manual makes this a requirement even for bench-testing the valve. Extraction is managed through programmable pre-infusion, pulse brew and digital temperature control (BUNN's feature list for the DV-3), and the DV-3 also adjusts automatically to varying water conditions. Cold brew lock-out prevents brewing that would compromise coffee quality, automatic warmer time-out ends the hold period, and energy-saver mode reduces tank temperature during idle periods. In high lime areas, BrewLOGIC technology calculates flow rate and adjusts brew time to keep pot levels consistent. Models with a hot water faucet support allied hot beverages, and airpot models let staff carry freshly brewed coffee to remote meeting rooms, breakfast bars and other service points.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The service manual's procedures call for de-liming the brew valve, hoses, tank and sprayhead areas whenever a flow blockage is found — the maintenance step it documents most directly. BUNN lists supporting consumables and accessories for the AXIOM-APS: regular 1M paper filters (#20115.0000) and C Gourmet filters (#20157.0001), the EQ-17-TL water filter system (#30200.1000), the ED-17-TL in-line water filter (#30201.1001), and funnel assemblies with Gourmet "C" decals (#34559.0000 and #34559.0001). BUNN also publishes a Clean Contact line of cleaning solutions. The sources do not state cleaning intervals, so follow BUNN's published cleaning procedures for your model.
Troubleshooting
The Axiom service & repair manual (39132.0000G) contains Troubleshooting, Diagnostics and Technician Programming Reminders sections. The component-level checks it documents include:
- Brew valve — located inside the top cover behind the front face plate. Activate it through Service Tools / Test Outputs / Brew Valve with the brew funnel and server in place, and listen for the click of the coil pulling the plunger in. If it clicks but no water flows, look for blockage in the valve, hose, tank or sprayhead and de-lime all related areas. The coil is internally rectified, so do not test it with an ohmmeter — the reading will be open or very high resistance depending on lead polarity. A voltmeter on the coil terminals shows a 120 VAC potential at all times; when the valve is activated the reading rises slightly, or an amp clamp around one valve wire should read 0.08 to 0.20 amps. To replace: disconnect power, disconnect the wires, drain the tank below the outlet, remove the hoses, then remove the two #8-32 nuts securing the valve to the sprayhead panel.
- Warmer elements — located under the warmer plate. With the ON/OFF switch on, check for 120 VAC at the element on two-wire 120V and three-wire 120/208V and 120/240V models, or 230 VAC on two-wire 230V models. Element resistance should be 144.0 Ω (100W-120V), 484.0 Ω (100W-220V) or 400.0 Ω (100W-200V), with terminal-to-sheath reading infinite (open). The warmer assembly is held by three #4-40 screws and the element by two #8-32 nuts.
- Blanket warmer — resistance 288.0 Ω (50W-120V) or 968.0 Ω (50W-220V). When installing a new blanket warmer, position the bottom of the blanket 1½ in. from the bottom of the tank and connect the white wires to the piggyback terminals on the limit thermostat and the refill valve.
- Temperature probe — inserted through the tank lid assembly. At J9 on the control board, expect approximately 4 VDC when cool falling to 1 VDC at ready temperature; probe resistance runs from about 10.5K cool to 870 Ω at ready. If resistance is to specification but voltage is absent, check the limit thermostat (and the TCO on 230V models). If resistance is to specification and the circuit is working, replace the control board; if resistance is out of specification, replace the temperature probe.
Applications
The Axiom family covers the common commercial coffee service styles. Airpot models (APS, DV-APS) brew into portable 1.9 to 3L airpots that keep coffee hot and fresh for hours and travel easily to remote meeting rooms, breakfast bars and catering service points — a format that suits hotels, buffets and offices where coffee is consumed away from the brewer. The AXIOM-APS configuration is rated for 120 8 oz (236 ml) cups per hour. Warmer-deck models such as the 15-3 (three lower warmers) and the 4/2 Twin (four upper / two lower warmers) serve decanter traffic in diners, cafés and convenience counters, while the DV-TC thermal model covers thermal-system applications. Dual-voltage models (DV-APS, DV-3) suit sites whose supply voltage differs from standard North American 120V service. PartHubz supplies the Axiom lineup along with the BUNN filters, airpots, funnels and water filtration accessories listed for it.
