Installation & Requirements

Electrical

Water supply

The UL-100 manual specifies a 6 ft flexible hot-water fill hose with a 3/4-inch female garden-hose connector. It calls for a main incoming supply line of 1/2 inch or larger and a 1/2-inch or larger shut-off valve installed as close to the dishwasher as possible for service. The machine has a built-in flow control, and incoming hot-water pressure must be between 25 and 95 psi. For the UL-100, the hot-water supply must provide at least 140°F, measured at the dishwasher. Water hardness of 3 grains per gallon (US) or less is recommended.

Drain

The manual specifies a 6 ft drain hose with a 5/8-inch inside diameter. The maximum drain-height connection must not exceed 3 ft. The hose is at the rear of the machine and has a 5/8-inch hose-barb fitting. Keep the retaining clamp in place so the hose maintains its goose-neck bend, and do not stretch or kink the hose. Connect the drain hose to a WYE fitting; the manual warns that a TEE fitting can prevent complete drainage. Do not connect the hose to a disposer. The listed maximum drain flow is 15 US gpm. The manual notes that draining takes 8 seconds and that water exits the hose with considerable force.

Operation

The UL-100 is a low-temperature chemical-sanitizing machine. Its manual identifies detergent, rinse aid, and sanitizer pickup tubing and chemical containers. Check the chemical containers and refill them as required. For priming pickup tubing, the manual directs the operator to place each pickup tube in a separate container of hot water, hold the PRIME button up in the DET position until water flows into the wash compartment, and hold it down in the RINSE position until water flows into the compartment. Repeat the priming procedure for the UL-100 sanitizer tubing, return the pickup tubes to their chemical containers, then run three empty dishwasher cycles to flush chemicals from the wash compartment.

The manual's end-of-day drain procedure uses the OFF/DRAIN position. After selecting that position, the power-switch light goes out; close the door, and the in-cycle light illuminates while the machine drains. When draining is complete, the in-cycle light goes out. The manual then directs the operator to remove and clean the scrap screen, inspect and clean the pump intake screen, replace the scrap screen, check the chemical containers, and return the machine to normal operation.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily checks

End-of-day cleaning

For the UL-100, remove the upper and lower wash spray arms and flush the arms and nozzles with clean water. Inspect the wash-arm bearings for wear; the manual says to contact a service agent if bearing replacement is needed. Inspect the wash-tank heating element and tank probes for scale buildup. Gently remove buildup with a stainless-steel scouring pad; do not use steel wool. Wipe the interior and exterior with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Do not hose the exterior with water. Reassemble the dishwasher and leave the door open to aid overnight drying.

During the drain and scrap-screen cleaning procedure, carefully remove the screen so soil or waste does not fall into the sump. Rinse it with clean water and back-flush it; do not strike it against solid objects. Inspect the sump and clean the pump intake screen, then replace the scrap screen.

Weekly and monthly checks

Weekly, perform the daily checks, inspect water lines for leaks, check underneath the dishwasher for leaks, make sure the flexible fill and drain hoses are not kinked, confirm that the machine is level, clean accumulated lime deposits from the wash-tank heating element, and inspect the scrap screen and spray arms for damage. Replace or repair damaged parts as needed.

Monthly, perform the daily and weekly maintenance checks and clean the chemical-dispenser pickup tubing for detergent and rinse aid. Clean the sanitizer pickup tubing as well. Follow the manual's priming and flushing directions in the Operation section after cleaning the tubing.

Deliming

Mineral deposits, or lime, can form on interior surfaces; the manual describes them as a white haze or, when accumulation is heavy, a granular solid. Inspect the interior and delime as needed according to the mineral content of the water. Use a deliming agent in accordance with the chemical supplier's instructions. Never mix deliming solution or other acids with chlorine, iodine, bromine, or fluorine. The manual warns that mixing deliming solution with sodium hypochlorite sanitizer can create hazardous gases. Wear protective clothing when handling deliming solutions and follow the chemical supplier's safety procedures.
