About the Hobart HTiP-LS
Overview
The Hobart HTiP-LS is a Service Scale in the HTi Series. Hobart’s parts manual identifies it as model ML-29352 and includes that model in a section labelled “Printer Only.” The HT Series Operator Manual covers the HTiP-LS along with other HTi and HTs models, so the operating functions below are described for the series unless the model listing is stated specifically.
The HT Scale System can store information for thousands of products. Records can contain retail handling details such as a PLU number, UPC number, price, tare and shelf life. Consumer-facing product information may also be entered, including NutriFacts, safe-handling information, expanded text, health tips, meal planners, recipes, cooking instructions and merchandising graphics.
Key Features
- PLU-based product handling: Operators can call up products by PLU and use product records for weighing and label workflows.
- Manual and prepack modes: The operator manual describes both single-transaction manual work and repeated prepack transactions.
- Flexible item entry: The system’s item entry types are Normal, Accumulate Items and Production Entry. Accumulate Items and Production Entry are used with Manual Mode.
- Product information: Product records can include pricing, tare, shelf life, UPC and other product text or consumer information.
- Network and peripheral connections: The HT Series manual lists USB 2.0, Ethernet and an audio connection.

Installation & Requirements
The HT Series manual states that installation and moving should be carried out only by a qualified Hobart Service Technician. It specifies electrical power of 120 V, 60 Hz, single phase, 2-wire plus ground, and says the supplied power cord connects to the bottom of the scale. The manual gives an operating temperature range of 14°F to 104°F (-10°C to 40°C).
The listed communications connections are two Type A USB 2.0 ports, an RJ-45 Ethernet TCP/IP jack and an audio jack for external headphones. The manual does not provide HTiP-LS-specific clearance or ventilation requirements in the supplied material.
Operation
Manual Mode
Manual Mode is described for individual transactions, such as deli-counter work. The operator places the product on the scale, enters a PLU and touches the print icon to print the label. Manual Mode also supports Accumulate Items and Production Entry.
Prepack Mode
Prepack Mode is described for multiple transactions, such as work in a meat room. The operator places the product on the scale and enters a PLU. When the weight is stable, the label prints without the operator touching the print icon. After printing, the product information remains in place, so another package using the same PLU can be weighed and labelled.
Accumulate Items and Production Entry
Accumulate Items supports operations such as a bakery where several PLUs are sold in one transaction. Depending on configuration, the system can print item labels, an item-total label, or itemized receipts. An item-total label contains the grand total and barcode.
Production Entry lets an operator enter several fixed-weight or by-count PLUs and the number of labels required for each, then print them in one operation. The manual gives an example of producing labels for more than one product in a single run. It also notes that streaming labels—printing without removing the backing paper—may be useful for production entry when the scale is set up for that workflow.
Product records and operator screens
Product records can hold handling and processing details, including PLU, UPC, pricing, tare and shelf life, as well as consumer information such as NutriFacts, safe-handling text and cooking instructions. The manual describes touch screens for entering information and navigating scale features. Screen content can include capacity information, a zero indicator, operating mode, date and time, and alerts. The position of some screen elements can be configured in Supervisor Mode.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The supplied HT Scale cleaning instructions specify cleaning the printhead with a cotton swab and alcohol every time a label roll is changed. They also direct the operator to clean the roller on the label cassette with a cotton swab and alcohol.
The instructions say to wipe the scale platter, display and housing daily with a clean cloth and mild detergent solution. Do not dampen labels, electronic parts or connections, or allow water to enter openings in the housing. Do not use a metal tool on the printhead, as it could scratch or break it.
Troubleshooting
The operator manual describes alerts that help identify certain issues. A printer alert can flash red for a problem such as an open label cassette or an out-of-label condition; touching the alert displays the message. The manual also describes a network-connectivity indicator. If connectivity is lost, the icon flashes red, and the application background may turn red if that option is enabled. Touching the network indicator can show network details if enabled.
These are alert descriptions, not repair instructions. The supplied manual material does not give further HTiP-LS-specific troubleshooting steps for these conditions.
Applications
The operating modes described in the HT Series manual suit several kinds of retail food work: Manual Mode for individual deli-counter transactions, Prepack Mode for repeated package weighing and labelling, and Accumulate Items for transactions involving multiple products, such as bakery sales. Production Entry supports batch label runs for fixed-weight or by-count products.
