About the Randell 9215-32-7
Overview
The Randell 9215-32-7 is a two-section refrigerated worktop counter built for commercial kitchens that need cold storage directly beneath a prep surface. The cabinet measures 48" long, 33" deep, and 36" high, with two 18" doors and a stainless steel top that serves as a durable work surface. Randell, part of Unified Brands and now under Electrolux Professional, has long been regarded as a professional standard in commercial refrigeration equipment.
This model belongs to Randell's worktop refrigerator family (related models include the 9205-32-7 at 60" long and freezer variants such as the 9215F-290). The 9215-32-7 provides 11.58 cu. ft. of storage with 9.5 cu. ft. of shelving capacity, making it well suited for holding ingredients right where line cooks need them.
Key Features
- Two-section configuration: Two 18" doors provide access to the refrigerated cabinet.
- Stainless steel worktop: The top (service part RP TOP9215-32-7A) is stainless steel, giving you a prep surface that stands up to daily kitchen use.
- Side-mounted refrigeration: The self-contained, air-cooled system is side mounted, keeping the full top surface usable.
- Danfoss ERC112C control: The electronic control is located on the front panel and includes low voltage protection — it will not output voltage to the compressor if voltage drops below 104V.
- R290 refrigerant: This unit uses an R290 (propane) refrigeration system with an Embraco 1/2 HP compressor (RF CMP1607, 115V-60Hz, model NEU2140U).
- Continuous evaporator fans: Evaporator fans run continuously while the unit is powered on.
- Mobility and leveling: Ships with 6" casters (with and without brake options, HD CST060/HD CST061) and 6" adjustable bullet feet (HD LEG9902).
- Recessed handles and spring hinges: Doors feature recessed handles (HD HDL0103), snap-in gaskets (IN GSK1020), and spring hinge assemblies (RP HNG9901 right, RP HNG9902 left).

Installation & Requirements
The following comes from the Randell worktop series operator manual (PP MNL1703):
- Dedicated circuit: The unit must have its own dedicated line. Condensing units are designed to operate with voltage fluctuation of plus or minus 10% of the voltage on the data tag. Burnout from exceeding voltage limits voids the warranty.
- Voltage verification: Take a voltage reading at the compressor motor electrical connections while the unit is operating to verify correct voltage. The Danfoss controller will not output voltage to the compressor below 104V.
- Clearance: Maintain a combined total of at least 1" clearance at the back of the unit. Do not block the machine compartment ventilation exhaust register. Keep the area free of combustible materials.
- Ventilation and ambient conditions: The air-cooled, self-contained unit needs sufficient cool, clean air. Avoid placing it near heat-generating equipment or in direct sunlight, and avoid unheated rooms or areas where room temperature may drop below 70°F or rise above 100°F.
- Floor and countertop load: The surface must be level, free of vibration, and strong enough to support the unit plus maximum product load.
- Leveling: All legs or casters must contact the floor while maintaining a level work surface; adjust bullet feet or shim casters as needed.
- Electrical connection: Wiring should be done by a qualified electrician per national and local codes. The unit uses a NEMA 5-15P plug on a 9' 16/3 grounded cord.
- Pre-start checks: Check refrigeration lines for kinks, dents, or rubbing; confirm condenser and evaporator fans rotate freely; verify the unit is level.
- Before loading food: Allow the unit to run approximately two (2) hours so the interior reaches storage temperature.
R290 caution: This unit contains R290 flammable refrigerant. Avoid damaging refrigerant tubing. Do not use mechanical devices to defrost. Do not puncture refrigerant tubing. Service must be performed by trained service personnel, and component parts must be replaced with like components to minimize ignition risk.
Operation
- The temperature control is located on the front panel; adjust the set point there as needed.
- Evaporator fans run continuously while the base is powered on.
- The Danfoss ERC112C controller offers a home screen and menu navigation; press the top left button repeatedly to exit and return to the home screen.
- Pre-chill product before loading — the manual recommends chilling product to 37°F (or 3°F for freezer variants) before introducing it to the cabinet.
- Manual defrost can be initiated if ice builds on the coil.
- Record the model number, serial number, and installation date in the manual — the serial number is located in the cabinet on the left side or back wall closest to the compressor compartment, under the drawer track. This information is required when ordering replacement parts or requesting warranty service.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Randell recommends a preventive maintenance program with these monthly procedures (neglecting them can void warranty coverage for related failures):
- Clean fan blades on the condensing unit and evaporator assembly.
- Clean all gaskets weekly (or daily) with warm water and mild detergent to extend gasket life.
- Lubricate door hinges with lithium grease.
Cleaning warnings: Do not use sharp utensils or objects. Do not use steel pads, wire brushes, scrapers, or chloride cleaners on stainless steel. Never use hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid) or abrasive solvents. Do not pressure wash the equipment — damage to electrical components may result.
Recommended stainless steel cleaners (per the manual):
- Routine cleaning: soap, ammonia, detergent (Medallion), applied with a sponge or cloth
- Fingerprints and smears: Arcal 20, Lac-O-Nu, Ecoshine (provides a barrier film)
- Stubborn stains and discoloration: Cameo, Talc, Zud, First Impression — rub in the direction of the polish lines
- Greasy and fatty acids, blood, burnt-on foods: Easy-Off, Degrease It, Oven Aid
- Grease and oil: any good commercial detergent, applied with a sponge or cloth
- Restoration/preservation: Benefit, Super Sheen — a good idea monthly
Troubleshooting
From the operator manual — when in doubt, turn the unit off and contact service at 888-994-7636:
- Unit does not run: Check for power to the unit (plug it in); check that the control is not in the OFF position (turn the controller on); a faulty control requires service.
- Unit too cold: Adjust the control set point.
- Unit too warm: Ensure the door/drawer is fully closed; inspect the gasket for wear or displacement; adjust the control set point; pre-chill product to 37°F (3°F for freezer) before loading.
- Ice on the coil: Initiate a manual defrost.
- Unit noisy: Ice on the coil — initiate a manual defrost.
- Unit does not defrost: Excessive ice on the coil — initiate a manual defrost.
Before any repairs, disconnect the unit from its power source. Service work should be done by factory-authorized service personnel to minimize ignition risk with the R290 system.
Applications
At 48" wide with a full stainless steel work surface over 11.58 cu. ft. of refrigerated storage, the 9215-32-7 fits naturally into prep lines, garde manger stations, and salad or sandwich assembly areas where ingredients must stay cold within arm's reach. The two 18" doors keep frequently used items separated, and the worktop height lets the unit line up with adjacent counters and equipment stands. The manual also notes this unit is intended for use in commercial, industrial, or institutional occupancies as defined in ASHRAE 15, and lists laboratory use among its intended applications.
