About the Atosa ATHOM-60
Overview
The Atosa ATHOM-60 is an open air merchandiser for displaying pre-chilled products in foodservice and retail settings. Its open display lets customers view and reach products, while the digital temperature controller and refrigeration system maintain a chilled cabinet for grab-and-go service. Atosa identifies beverages, dairy products, vegetables and fruits as intended products. The manual states that the cabinet is designed exclusively for displaying and selling these types of products and is intended for pre-chilled products; it is not a substitute for chilling warm food.
The ATHOM-60 has a black exterior, stainless steel interior, glass front and side panels, and LED lighting at the interior top and beneath the shelf. Its display area includes one stainless steel shelf and one floor shelf. Pre-installed casters allow the unit to be repositioned, and the manual says to lock the front caster brakes once it is in position.
Key Features
- Open-air access: Presents chilled products in a customer-facing display without a cabinet door.
- Digital temperature control: A digital controller and display let operators view and adjust the set point.
- Two display levels: Includes one stainless steel shelf and a floor shelf. The manual specifies a maximum shelf load of 80 lb. (36.3 kg) for the ATHOM-60; do not exceed it.
- Glass panels: Glass front and side panels provide visibility into the display. Handle glass carefully, as the manual notes that glass components are fragile.
- Interior lighting: LED lighting is positioned beneath the shelf and at the interior top.
- Self-contained cooling: Uses R290 refrigerant and a 3/5 HP compressor, according to the specification sheet.
- Casters: Pre-installed casters support repositioning; the front caster brakes should be locked after placement.
- Optional accessory: Atosa lists a top-mount dry display case as an optional accessory for the open air merchandiser line.

- Temperature information: The specification sheet states that the unit maintains 35°F–38°F and recommends setting the refrigerator between 35°F and 38°F for food preservation. The manual describes a normal operating range of 34°F–45°F in its precautions and lists 33°F–45°F in its technical parameters. Refer to the unit’s controller and current documentation when setting and monitoring product temperature.

Installation & Requirements
Install the merchandiser indoors, on a flat, stable surface, in a dry, well-ventilated location. The manual specifies an operating environment of 75°F (24°C) and 55% relative humidity and cautions that conditions outside these values may affect performance. Keep the unit away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not use it outdoors, expose it to water, drill into it, place heavy objects on top, or stand or walk on it. Handle its glass components with care, and do not tilt the unit more than 45 degrees during handling or installation.
The manual calls for at least 4 in. (10 cm) of clearance on both sides and between the back of the unit and a wall or other object. It also advises leaving room for airflow and keeping the unit in a well-ventilated area. Allow the equipment to sit for at least 2 hours after installation before switching it on. Lock the front caster brakes after positioning the cabinet, or adjust the leveling feet to keep it stable if fitted.
Connect the merchandiser to a properly grounded, dedicated three-pin receptacle. The manual specifies a 110V–120V single-phase AC supply; the specification sheet gives 115V/60Hz/1 phase and a NEMA 5-20P plug, identified as NEMA 20A/120V. Verify that the facility supply matches the unit’s rating. Do not use an adapter, extension cord or shared outlet. Keep the power cord out of high-traffic areas and away from rugs or carpets. Do not use the appliance if the cord or plug is damaged; replacement must be performed with the same type of cord and plug by a qualified professional or the manufacturer’s service team.
Before first use, clean the interior components, including the bottom cover plate and shelves, then connect the unit to power. The manual says to run the empty merchandiser for 24 hours before loading products. Load only pre-chilled items once the cabinet has reached its operating temperature.
Operation
The light switch controls the lights. The cooling switch controls the compressor, controller and fan motors. After cleaning and positioning the unit, switch on the lights and check that the shelf lights work, then switch on refrigeration. For first-time operation, allow the cabinet to run without a load for 24 hours. Monitor the temperature and place products inside only after the required temperature has been reached. Do not break the cold chain: products should be pre-chilled before loading.
To change the set point, press and hold the SET key for more than 2 seconds. When the current value appears and the °C or °F indicator blinks, use the up or down button within 10 seconds to adjust it. Press SET again to save, or wait 10 seconds. The manual also explains that the controller has a programming mode: press SET and the down button together for 3 seconds, use SET to display a parameter and the up or down buttons to adjust it, then press SET to store the value and move to the next parameter. Exit by pressing SET and the up button, or wait 15 seconds. The manual cautions against putting excessively hot food in the cabinet, blocking air inlets or outlets, or placing food in direct contact with the side glass. Do not store medicine in the unit. If power is interrupted or the unit is unplugged, wait at least 5 minutes before reconnecting and restarting.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The manual recommends cleaning the equipment at least once a week. Disconnect power before cleaning. Use mild water and a neutral, non-corrosive detergent; do not spray or pour water directly on the unit or wash it under running tap water. Wipe away detergent residue with a clean cloth and ensure the equipment is completely dry before returning it to operation. The shelf and interior components should be cleaned as part of routine care.
Clean the condenser regularly, at least once a month, to remove dirt and debris. The manual instructs the operator to remove the bottom front panel screws with a Phillips screwdriver, detach the panel, and clean the coils with a vacuum wand and a soft, non-metallic brush. Do not bend the coil fins. Wear gloves and protective eyewear when working near sharp fins and dust. Disconnect the unit before cleaning and do not resume operation until it is dry.
Do not apply hot water to cold glass; allow the glass to warm gradually first to reduce the risk of breakage. For maintenance or replacement of electrical components, disconnect power at the main disconnect and contact a professional technician or Atosa’s service team. If unusual noises, odours or smoke occur, disconnect power immediately and do not restart the unit until a qualified technician has resolved the issue. The manual also advises that only qualified professionals perform welding repairs and inspect suspected refrigerant leaks.
Troubleshooting
- Not cooling properly; controller error code: The troubleshooting table directs the operator to call the service centre for adjustment.
- Not cooling properly; loose wire: The table says to check the wire failure. Electrical inspection or repair should be handled by a qualified technician.
- Evaporator coil iced up: The troubleshooting table identifies the drain pan and hose heater as items to check. Disconnect power before maintenance, and contact a qualified technician if the issue persists or requires repair.
- Unusual noise, odour or smoke: The manual instructs operators to disconnect the power supply immediately and contact a qualified technician. Do not restart the unit until the fault has been resolved.
Applications
The ATHOM-60 suits customer-facing grab-and-go displays in cafés, convenience stores, delis, cafeterias and other foodservice or retail settings. Use it to present pre-chilled beverages, dairy products, vegetables and fruits where customers need clear visibility and open access. Follow the manual’s product guidance: this merchandiser is for displaying and selling pre-chilled products, not for cooling warm items.
