About the Bunn ITCB
Overview
The BUNN ITCB is an Infusion Series commercial brewer for coffee and tea. The operating manual describes brewing with a funnel and BUNN paper filter, selecting batch sizes and using the brewer’s control panel. For compatible Smart Funnel operation, the manual describes pairing the funnel with a G9-2T DBC or MHG grinder; the grinder is separate equipment, not an included feature of the brewer.
The manual covers ITCB and ITCB-DV equipment. Electrical connections and some operating details depend on the specific unit, so use the brewer’s data plate and applicable wiring diagram to identify its requirements.
Key Features
- Coffee and tea brewing: The ITCB is identified as an Infusion Series tea and coffee brewer.
- Selectable batch brewing: The manual describes selecting a batch size and starting the assigned brew cycle.
- Programmable brew functions: Documented functions include brew volume, dilution volume, dilution delay, pulse brew routines and brew lockout.
- Smart Funnel compatibility: With a compatible Smart Funnel and G9-2T DBC or MHG grinder, the brewer can read the coffee name and batch size from the funnel handle.
- Display messages: The manual documents messages such as NOW BREWING, DRIPPING, CHECK FUNNEL and BREW TEMPERATURE TOO LOW.

Installation & Requirements
Electrical connection
The manual instructs installers to keep the brewer disconnected from its power source until the specified initial setup step. It gives wiring diagrams for the applicable electrical services and directs installers to refer to the brewer’s data plate and local or national electrical codes for circuit requirements. The manual does not provide an amp rating in the supplied material.
For 120/208V or 120/240V operation with a power-supply cord, the manual specifies UL-listed flexible cord types SO, SJO, SJTO, HSJO or SJOW, No. 12 AWG, four conductors, rated 90°C. It specifies a UL-listed NEMA 14-20P or L14-20P attachment plug rated 125/250V and 20 amps. For 200V or 230V operation with a cord, it specifies H07RN-F cord with a <HAR> marking, 1.5 mm² conductor size and a 90°C minimum rating; the attachment plug must meet applicable local or national requirements. The manual specifies a cord length of at least 3 feet (0.91 m) and no more than 6 feet (1.82 m), measured from the strain relief to the end of the plug cap. These cord details apply to the stated service options; confirm the specific brewer’s configuration before connection.
Water connection
Flush the water line and connect it securely to the inlet fitting at the bottom rear of the brewer, then turn on the water supply. The brewer must connect to a cold-water system with operating pressure between 20 and 90 psi (138 and 620 kPa). Install a shut-off valve in the line before the brewer. If pressure exceeds 90 psi (620 kPa), the manual calls for a regulator to reduce it to 50 psi (345 kPa). BUNN does not recommend a saddle valve, as the opening it makes may restrict water flow.
Operation
Coffee brewing
For brewing without a Smart Funnel and compatible grinder, the manual instructs the operator to start with a clean, empty brew funnel, insert a BUNN filter, add fresh coffee and level the grounds by gently shaking the funnel. Slide the funnel into the rails, place an empty server beneath it, select the desired batch size and briefly press the assigned BREW button. Wait for visible dripping to stop before removing the funnel and discarding the grounds and filter.
For Smart Funnel operation, the manual describes selecting a small batch on a compatible grinder, inserting a BUNN filter and grinding the selected quantity into the funnel. After the funnel is placed in the rails, the brewer reads the coffee name and size through the chip in the funnel handle. The manual also notes that the brewer can match the brew batch size to the grinder batch size.
If the brew volume is greater than 86.0 oz. (2.54 L) and pulse brew is disabled, the display may show COFFEE FUNNEL? The manual instructs the operator to check that the correct funnel is in place and press BREW again.
Tea brewing
For the tea procedure in the manual, place a BUNN filter in a clean funnel, add loose tea leaves and level the bed by gently shaking. The manual recommends approximately 3–5 ounces of loose tea for three gallons of beverage. Slide the funnel into the rails, ensure the ON/OFF switch is on, select a batch size and briefly press the assigned BREW button. After brewing, the display counts down the DRIPPING time; wait until visible dripping stops before removing the funnel and discarding the leaves and filter.
A brew cycle may not start if the ON/OFF switch is off, brew temperature is too low, the display indicates CHECK FUNNEL, or the selected brew button or batch size is disabled. The manual says to wait for the brewer to heat or cancel the BREW LOCKOUT option when temperature is too low, and to remove the funnel, empty it and replace it with fresh grounds or tea when prompted to check the funnel.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The manual calls for cleaning and sanitizing the iced tea brewer daily and cleaning the server daily. Remove and thoroughly clean the brew funnel; its tip and screen must be clear of tea particles or residue. Remove and thoroughly rinse the sprayhead, ensuring that its holes are open and free of mineral deposits. Wipe the sprayhead panel with a damp cloth. The manual cautions against keeping brewed iced tea overnight.
Clean the sprayhead weekly with the BUNN sprayhead cleaning tool identified in the manual as part number 38227.0000. Use the pointed end to remove deposits from the sprayhead holes, then insert the long end into the sprayhead fitting and rotate it to clear deposits. The manual recommends a damp cloth rinsed in mild, nonabrasive liquid detergent for equipment surfaces and says not to clean the equipment with a water-jet device.
Sprayhead buildup can restrict flow and affect brewing. The manual advises verifying that sprayhead flow matches the programmed flow rate using its calibration routine. Lime buildup may require recalibration; after cleaning away buildup, recalibrate to achieve the desired volumes. The manual also advises cleaning the brew funnel before each brew cycle to reduce the chance of tea leaves or coffee grounds clogging the dripout tip.
Troubleshooting
Brew cycle will not start
- SWITCH NOT ON: Turn the ON/OFF switch on.
- BREW TEMPERATURE TOO LOW: Wait for the brewer to heat, or cancel the BREW LOCKOUT option as described in the manual.
- CHECK FUNNEL: Remove the funnel, empty the used grounds or tea leaves and replace them with fresh ingredients.
- DISABLED: Select a different enabled brew button or batch size.
Water flow, heating or beverage problems
- Water flows into the tank continuously with power removed: The manual lists a refill valve, refill probe or sensitivity setting, and control board as possible causes. It advises checking for foreign material holding the valve open, scale on the probe and a secure probe connection. Sensitivity may need adjustment for water with very low or high conductivity.
- Water will not heat or HEATING TIME TOO LONG appears: The manual lists the limit thermostat, temperature probe and toggle switch as possible causes. It instructs technicians to disconnect power before checking thermostat continuity and warns not to bypass the limit thermostat. Electrical testing should follow the service manual.
- Inconsistent beverage level: Check the direction and condition of the strainer, operating water pressure, brew and dilution valves, and possible lime buildup in the tank, fittings, tubing, valves or sprayhead. The manual specifies water pressure between 20 and 90 psi (138 and 620 kPa) and recommends adjusting brew volumes as required.
- Dripping from the sprayhead, filter overflow or server overflow: The manual lists a leaky brew valve, incorrect paper filter, missing sprayhead, beverage left in the server from a prior brew, or brew-volume adjustment as possible checks.
- Weak beverage: Use BUNN paper filters, fresh coffee or tea in a sufficient quantity, and the BUNN sprayhead. Centre the filter and level the grounds or leaves. The manual says the water temperature immediately below the sprayhead should not be less than 195°F (90.5°C); brew volume, dilution volume, dilution delay and pulse brew routines may also need adjustment.
