About the Bunn LPG-2E
Overview
The BUNN LPG-2E is a commercial, low-profile coffee grinder with two hoppers for whole-bean coffee. Each hopper holds up to 3 lb, allowing operators to keep two coffee selections available in the same grinder. A selector switch chooses whether beans feed from the left or right hopper, and the grinder dispenses the selected coffee into a waiting funnel and filter.
The grinder is intended for use with most commercial drip coffee brewers. BUNN's operating guide states that the factory grind setting follows drip specifications set forth by the United States Department of Commerce and adopted by the Coffee Brewing Center of the Pan American Coffee Bureau. The grind and dispensed amount can be adjusted from the factory setting.
Key Features
- Two bean hoppers: Each hopper stores up to 3 lb of whole-bean coffee.
- Hopper selection: A dedicated selector switch lets the operator choose the left or right hopper.
- Preset grind and amount: Factory settings are intended for drip coffee brewing; adjustments can be made to change grind or dispensed weight.
- Low-profile footprint: The grinder is 8.6 inches wide.
- Grinding burrs: The grinder uses 3.19-inch-diameter burrs. BUNN's commercial warranty information lists coverage for coffee grinder burrs for 4 years or 40,000 lb of coffee, whichever comes first, subject to the warranty terms.
- Quiet, high-torque motor: This feature is stated in the product information supplied for this model.

Installation & Requirements
The operating guide specifies indoor use on a sturdy counter or shelf. Provide enough space above the grinder to raise the hopper lid when adding beans. The guide lists an attached cordset and grounded electrical service. It gives separate electrical requirements for 120V and 100V models: 120 volts AC, 15 amps, single phase, 60 Hz for 120V models, or 100 volts AC, 15 amps, single phase, 50 Hz for 100V models. Check the grinder's own electrical information to verify the applicable supply before connection; the guide does not identify one of these electrical versions as universal to every LPG-2E.
The manual states that the grinder is for whole-bean coffee. It does not specify gas connections or ventilation requirements.
Operation
Operating controls
The Off/On/Start switch has three positions. In the upper Off position, grinder operation stops. The lower Start position is momentary: press and release it to begin a grind cycle. After the cycle begins, the switch returns to the middle On position and remains there after grinding stops.
On the LPG-2E, the hopper selector switch has Left and Right positions. Set it to Left to grind beans from the left hopper or Right to grind beans from the right hopper. Before starting, visually check that the selected hopper has an ample supply of whole-bean coffee.
Grinding coffee
- Place a paper filter in the brew funnel.
- On the LPG-2E, select the left or right hopper and visually check that it contains enough whole-bean coffee.
- Place the funnel with its filter into the grinder's funnel rails.
- Press the Off/On/Start switch down to Start and release it to initiate the grind cycle.
- The grinder dispenses coffee at its preset grind and amount into the waiting funnel and filter. The switch returns to On when the cycle begins and stays in that position after grinding ceases.
Use only whole-bean coffee. The factory grind is set for drip specifications, but the manual states that grind and dispensed amount can be adjusted. Refer to the BUNN operating guide's adjustment instructions for the adjustment procedure.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Weekly exterior cleaning
Clean exterior surfaces with a damp cloth rinsed in mild, nonabrasive liquid detergent. Avoid abrasive materials, which can scratch the grinder.
Six-month grind-chamber cleaning
The operating guide provides this procedure for cleaning the grind chamber and related parts. Unplug the grinder before cleaning. Empty all beans from the hopper or hoppers, then plug the grinder in and place a funnel with a filter into the funnel rails. Press and release the Start switch to run a few grind cycles, dispensing coffee remaining in the grind chamber. Disconnect the grinder from its power source before proceeding with disassembly.
- Remove the funnel and filter, then carefully tip the grinder onto its back.
- Remove the two #10-32 screws that secure the burr housing cap assembly to the burr housing, and remove the cap assembly.
- Remove the load disc. Slide the rotator with the lower burr, spring, and brass bushing off the motor shaft.
- Clean the grind chamber and removed parts with a dry, non-metallic bristle brush, then wipe them with a dry, clean cloth.
- Reinstall the brass bushing with its flanged end first, followed by the spring and rotor with lower burr, onto the motor shaft.
- Reinstall the load disc with its flat side toward the rotor, then reinstall the burr housing cap assembly.
- Refer to the initial setup and adjustment instructions if grind or dispensed coffee weight needs to be changed. Replace the dechaffer assembly.
The manual identifies two dechaffer plates as required components. Follow the guide's safety warning to unplug the grinder before cleaning and keep fingers and foreign objects out of the hopper or chute opening.
Applications
The LPG-2E is suited to commercial coffee stations that prepare drip coffee and want two whole-bean selections available at one grinder. Its funnel-and-filter dispensing arrangement supports use with most commercial drip coffee brewers. Example settings include cafés, restaurants, and foodservice operations serving regular, decaffeinated, or specialty whole-bean coffee.
