About the Hobart HHTC6
Overview
The Hobart HHTC6 is a 6-foot-wide, two-tier, self-service hot deli display case. It is part of Hobart’s HHTC series, which the manual describes as equipment for holding hot food products at regulated temperatures to maintain freshness and quality. The case has stainless-steel surfaces and clear and mirrored tempered glass. Electronic temperature regulation controls the well heat and air stream.
An opening on the customer side allows customers to reach in for self-service. Sliding glass doors on the operator side allow staff to load packaged food. HHTC4, HHTC6, and HHTC8 cases can be positioned next to one another to create different case configurations.
Key Features
- Two tiers for displaying hot food.
- Electronic regulation of the well temperature and air stream.
- Separate switches for upper heat, lower heat, lights, and main power.
- A temperature controller with a set-point range of 149°F to 185°F.
- Sliding glass doors for loading and a customer-side opening for self-service.
- A programmed well temperature setting remains in memory after power interruption, disconnection, or shutdown until an operator changes it.

Installation & Requirements
Before installation, check that the electrical service agrees with the specifications on the machine data plate, located on the operator side of the case. The location must allow adequate clearances for servicing and proper operation; the manual does not give clearance measurements in the supplied text.
After unpacking, check for shipping damage. If damage is found, retain the packaging and contact the carrier within 15 days of delivery. The manual describes assembly of the side glass panels, lower front glass panel, sliding glass doors, wire shelf, main power switch knob, operator-side lower panel, and light bulbs. An accessory cutting board can be assembled when ordered, using the instructions provided with it.
For electrical connection, the manual instructs installers to remove the lower front panel below the operator-side controls to access the junction box, then make connections to the terminal block in the box. Electrical and grounding connections must comply with applicable electrical codes. In Canada, the manual specifies local codes and the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA C22.1, latest edition. Use the HHTC6 electrical data and the machine data plate when confirming the required service.
Before first use
The manual calls for a burn-in to release odors that may result from heating new surfaces. First clean, sanitize, rinse, and dry the case and its parts and accessories, inside and out. Then operate the case at its maximum temperature settings for 30 minutes. Smoke with an unpleasant odor is normally given off during this burn-in period.
Operation
Powering and setting the case
- Turn the main power switch on. The temperature controller blinks during power-up.
- Turn on the light switch, upper heat switch, and lower heat switch as needed for operation.
- To view the well temperature set point, press the Set key. Quickly press Up or Down to adjust the setting within the stated range of 149°F to 185°F.
- After three seconds, the controller displays the actual well temperature rather than the set point. The heater output indicator lights while the unit preheats and indicates when the heaters cycle on during normal operation.
Preheating and loading
Allow the case to preheat for 30 to 60 minutes. All doors must be closed for the unit to preheat properly. Verify that the display case is at the proper temperature before loading. Open the sliding glass doors to load packaged food, and keep them closed except when loading product. After loading, return the sliding wire shelf fully toward the sliding doors.
End-of-day shutdown
Turn off the upper heat switch, then the lower heat switch, then the light switch. Turn the main power switch off last.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Safety: The case and its parts are hot; use care when operating, cleaning, or servicing it. Before cleaning or maintenance, disconnect electrical power and follow lockout/tagout procedures. Do not use oven cleaners or clean the case with a high-pressure hose. The manual says to clean the case at the end of the day after use.
Interior and glass
To clean the interior, raise the front glass on the customer side; it stays up on its own. Clean the interior stainless-steel surfaces with warm water and detergent, then rinse and wipe dry with a soft cloth. For glass cleaning, the manual instructs users to remove the clear glass protector strips from the sliding doors and front glass. Clean the door glass handles with warm water and detergent, rinse, and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Clean glass surfaces with warm water and detergent, rinse, and dry, or use a commercial glass cleaner. Replace the protector strips after cleaning.
Exterior and stainless steel
Clean the control panel with a sponge or soft cloth. Excessive water and harsh cleaners can damage the control panel. Clean the exterior with warm water and detergent using a soft cloth or sponge, rinse thoroughly, and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
To protect stainless-steel surfaces, avoid steel pads, wire brushes, and scrapers, which can leave iron deposits; use plastic scouring pads or soft cloths instead. For stubborn stains, the manual names Cameo, Talc, or Zud First Impression, and says to rub parallel to the polish lines or with the grain. Hard-water mineral deposits and food deposits can promote corrosion, so clean off food deposits and rinse thoroughly. Use mild detergent and nonchloride cleaners. If chloride-containing cleaners or sanitizers are used, rinse repeatedly. A stainless-steel polish such as Benefit or Super Sheen may be applied for added protection and luster.
Service
For repairs or adjustments, the manual directs users to contact a local Hobart service office. It also lists 1-888-4HOBART for information about long-term service contracts for this and other Hobart products.
Troubleshooting
Disconnect power and follow lockout/tagout procedures before maintenance. The manual gives these checks for the listed symptoms:
- Case will not operate or controller is blank: Check incoming power and fuses; replace fuses with the same size and type. Turn on the main power switch and lower heat switch. If the problem remains, call Hobart Service.
- Controller displays --- or EEE: Call Hobart Service.
- No well heat: Check incoming power and fuses, replacing fuses with the same size and type. Turn on the main power switch and lower heat switch. If the problem remains, call Hobart Service.
- No upper heat: Turn on the upper heat switch. If the problem remains, call Hobart Service.
- Lights are off while the controller functions: Turn on the light switch and check the fuse, replacing it with the same size and type. If the problem remains, call Hobart Service.
Applications
The HHTC6 is suited to deli and food-service settings that need to hold and present hot packaged food for customer self-service. Its two tiers provide separate display levels, with a maximum operating capacity of 132 lb on the bottom tier and 66 lb on the top tier. Multiple HHTC-series case sizes, including the HHTC6, can be placed side by side for a combined display.
