About the Hobart CL64-DWR
Overview
The Hobart CL64-DWR is a high-temperature, electric rack conveyor dishwasher for commercial dishrooms with a steady volume of racks, dishes and cookware. Its listed capacity is 342 racks per hour, with a conveyor speed of 9.5 feet per minute. The machine uses Drain Water Energy Recovery (DWER) and a factory-installed drain water tempering kit. A 19.5-inch chamber opening accommodates up to six standard sheet pans at a time on an open-end sheet pan rack. Hobart specifies a configurable pot and pan cycle for this model.
The CL64-DWR has a two-tank configuration: a 23-gallon wash tank and a 22-gallon power rinse tank. Its pumped final rinse flow is listed as 114 gallons per hour, and water consumption is 0.33 gallon per rack. The dishwasher has touchscreen controls with diagnostics and troubleshooting, WiFi connectivity, and SmartConnect app and cloud reporting for machine status, temperature logs, error codes, and cost, consumption and usage analysis.

Installation & Requirements
Water and drain connections
The CL64-DWR requires hot and cold water supplies. The specification sheet calls for a minimum incoming hot-water temperature of 110°F and a cold-water temperature from 55°F to 80°F. Flowing water pressure at the machine must be within the listed 20 to 65 PSI range. The incoming water line is specified with a minimum 1/2-inch inside diameter in the CL-series installation manual. The specification sheet identifies 1/2-inch FPT connections for both hot and cold water.
Connect the common tank drain through a trap to the sewer using a 2-inch pipe. The manual says the common drain can connect at either end, with a plug supplied for the opposite end; the CL-DWR factory drain plumbing may need to be relocated to the opposite side of the drain body. If a grease trap is required by code, the manual specifies a minimum flow capacity of 38 gallons per minute. The specification sheet also calls for a water hammer arrestor meeting ASSE-1010 or equivalent in the common water supply line, supplied by others. A water hammer arrester is also listed among the available accessories.
Electrical and ventilation requirements
The CL64-DWR is an electric model. Its specification sheet lists single-point electrical connection as standard and gives the voltage, phase, rated amperage and circuit values above. A dual-point connection with booster is documented as a field conversion. Electrical and grounding connections must comply with applicable portions of the National Electrical Code and/or local electrical codes. The machine does not include internal GFCI protection.
The specification lists minimum ventilation of 200 CFM at the load end and 400 CFM at the unload end. Optional vent hoods are available in standard, short and extended lengths. The sheet identifies a 4-inch by 16-inch vent stack with damper for the optional hood connection.
Operation
Before operation, the CL-series manual directs the operator to make sure the dishwasher is clean and all parts are in place. Install the tank standpipes, strainer pan and scrap basket, then install the upper and lower wash arms in their proper positions. The manual describes fitting each wash arm onto its connector pipe and into its guide. It also describes placing the standpipe with strainer in the first tank on machines equipped with a scrapper; that scrapper-specific direction is conditional and should not be assumed to apply to every CL64-DWR setup.
The touchscreen is the operator interface and provides diagnostic and troubleshooting information. The dishwasher also has an energy saver mode; the manual’s general CL-series symptom guide says to press WASH on the HMI to resume when the machine is in that mode. If an auto-timer has timed out, the troubleshooting guide directs the operator to push START or insert a rack. A table limit switch, if fitted, can also stop operation when tripped.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The CL64-DWR includes Complete Delime with Delime Notification, and its controls provide service diagnostics. The large double door opening is listed as a cleaning aid. The installation and operation manual directs operators to start with a clean machine and to confirm that the required tank parts are in place before use. The available manual excerpts do not provide a CL64-DWR-specific cleaning schedule or deliming procedure, so follow the complete Hobart instructions for those tasks rather than relying on an assumed interval.
If checking a pump intake for an obstruction, the manual’s troubleshooting instructions require disconnecting electrical power and following lockout/tagout procedures; it warns that there may be multiple circuits and that all circuits must be disconnected. Drain the tank or tanks before checking the pump intake. Contact Hobart Service when the listed sensor or heater faults call for service.
Troubleshooting
Machine does not operate
The CL-series manual lists these possible causes: a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker at the power supply; inspection doors that are not closed; a jammed conveyor; an auto-timer that has timed out; a tripped table limit switch, if used; or the machine being in Energy Saver Mode. Its stated checks are to close inspection doors, clear the conveyor issue, push START or insert a rack after a timer timeout, check the table limit switch, or press WASH on the HMI to resume from Energy Saver Mode. A fuse or breaker problem may require service by a qualified technician.
Dishes are not clean
The manual lists insufficient wash water, a drain obstruction causing an open-drain condition, a worn or torn drain O-ring, wash arm sliders left open, obstructed wash arm nozzles, a worn or torn manifold O-ring, pump pressure loss due to pump obstructions, and incorrect water temperature as possible causes. For a pump obstruction, disconnect all electrical circuits and follow lockout/tagout procedures before draining the tank or tanks and checking the pump intake. For incorrect water temperature, the manual points to the electric heat circuit breaker, main steam valve or gas supply valve as applicable to the machine configuration; the CL64-DWR described here is electric.
Selected displayed errors
- 016 and 017: Wash tank pressure sensor fault. The manual identifies a short circuit or maximum booster water level exceeded for 016, and an open circuit or minimum booster water level not reached for 017. Contact Hobart Service.
- 018: Wash tank water level is too high. Check the drain for obstructions and drain the machine; contact service if the error persists or the machine cannot drain.
- 020 and 023: Tank fill time exceeded or tank level failed to increase. Confirm the drain is closed, water is on, the fill hose is not kinked, and water pressure is 20 to 65 PSI. The 020 instructions also say to drain the machine and try filling again; contact service if the issue persists.
- 029: Wash interrupted because a door was opened during operation. Close the door or doors.
- 083 and 084: Final rinse temperature too low. Press ENTER to clear the error; for 084 the wash cycle stops and the machine turns off. Contact service if the error persists.
- 085 and 086: Wash tank over-temperature or booster over-temperature has tripped. Contact Hobart Service.
- 088 and 089: Wash tank or booster contactor error; the heater remains on despite a software command to turn it off. Turn off the machine circuit breaker or breakers, do not drain the machine, and contact service.
- 094 and 095: Power rinse tank pressure sensor fault. Contact Hobart Service.
- 100 and 101: Power rinse temperature sensor fault. Contact Hobart Service.
- 102 and 103: Drain Water Tempering temperature sensor fault. If the DWT assembly is not installed, the manual says to disable DWT in the manager menu; otherwise contact service.
- 234: External conveyor is not ready because it is off, has an error or is not connected. Ensure it has power and no errors; contact service if the problem persists.
Applications
The CL64-DWR suits commercial dishrooms that need conveyor throughput for recurring rack loads, including restaurant, hotel, institutional and foodservice operations. The 19.5-inch opening and stated capacity for up to six standard sheet pans on an open-end sheet pan rack are useful for kitchens that wash pans alongside dish racks. Its configurable pot and pan cycle adds a cookware option, while the rack conveyor format supports continuous loading and unloading during busy service periods.
