About the Atosa ACHP-2
Overview
The Atosa ACHP-2 is a gas countertop hot plate for commercial kitchens that need two open burners in a compact 12-inch-wide footprint. Its two burners are independently controlled, providing separate manual flame adjustment for each cooking position. Atosa specifies 32,000 BTU per burner and 64,000 BTU/h total input.
The unit has a stainless steel exterior and interior, heavy-duty cast iron top grates and a stainless steel full-width crumb tray. Stainless steel legs are standard, and the manual describes them as adjustable for levelling the appliance. The ACHP-2 is offered for natural gas or LP gas; the installed gas type must match the available supply and the unit’s configuration.
Key Features
- Two independent burners: Each burner has its own manual control.
- 32,000 BTU per burner: Combined input is 64,000 BTU/h.
- Standing pilots: The open-top burners use standing pilots for ignition.
- Heavy-duty grates: Cast iron top grates support cooking on the open burners.
- Stainless steel construction: The exterior, interior, full-width crumb tray and standard legs are stainless steel.
- Gas connection and regulator: A 3/4-inch NPT rear gas connection and regulator are standard.
- Natural gas or LP gas: The specification sheet gives separate supply pressures for each fuel type.

Installation & Requirements
Location and ventilation
The operating manual calls for installation on a level, solid, non-skid and incombustible surface in a well-lit work area. The countertop must be incombustible. Install the hot plate in a well-ventilated location and use a matched cooking fume exhaust hood in accordance with local regulations. The manual specifies at least 6 inches of space at both sides and the back, and at least 4 inches below the appliance. Keep the bottom clear so air can circulate for combustion.
Fit the supporting legs before use, then level the unit using its adjustable stainless steel legs. The manual says to lift the appliance rather than drag it when moving it. Leave enough space in front to remove the control panel. Do not direct a fan or air conditioner at the flame, as the manual warns that airflow can extinguish it.
Gas supply and connection
The ACHP-2 has a 3/4-inch external-thread gas inlet and a standard regulator. Its specified inlet pressure is 4 inches water column for natural gas or 10 inches water column for LP gas. The manual directs installers to follow local codes; where no similar local standard applies, it cites the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54, CSA-B149.1 or CSA-B149.2, as applicable. Gas installation, adjustment and conversion should be performed by authorized, licensed technicians.
After connecting the gas supply, check piping joints for leaks using soapy water or a leak-testing instrument. The manual expressly prohibits using an open flame to check for leaks. It also directs that the appliance’s individual shutoff valve be disconnected from the gas piping during pressure testing of that system above 1/2 psi (3.45 kPa). There is no electrical connection specified for this gas appliance.
Operation
Lighting and burner control
Before lighting, place the unit horizontally, make sure the crumb tray is properly positioned and check that all control knobs are at 0. The manual states that the pilot is factory set and that each burner has a pilot light. Hold an ignition source at the pilot; the manual notes that lighting may take time while gas in the pipe clears. Once the pilot is lit, turn the corresponding burner control anticlockwise to ignite the main burner. Turning the control farther increases burner output, with maximum output at the end of its travel.
To turn off a main burner, turn its control clockwise to 0. The manual states that this extinguishes the main burner while the pilot remains lit. It also says the main fire should be stopped for more than 5 minutes before the next use. Do not direct fans or air-conditioning at the flame, and keep air circulating beneath the appliance.
Initial use and gas conversion
For first use, the manual recommends wiping the stove with mild detergent and preheating the burners for 15–20 minutes, adjusting the flame to the cooking requirement. It notes that smoke may occur during initial heating as protective oils on the grates and other parts burn off. The manual says this should clear after the unit runs at maximum for an hour.
The ACHP-2 has different main-fire nozzles for natural gas and LP gas. The manual lists nozzle numbers NG37 and LPG51 for this model and says a gas-source conversion also requires changing the corresponding pressure-maintaining valve at the air intake. Conversion and any air-input adjustment are for authorized, licensed technicians; the manual says the factory-set burner air input does not normally need adjustment.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Turn off the control valves and let the appliance cool before cleaning. The manual says to cut off the gas source when the unit is not in use. Do not use abrasive or flammable cleaners, and do not hose down, immerse or pressure-wash the appliance; the manual excludes the catch tray from that prohibition. Follow the lighting instructions before returning the appliance to service after cleaning.
- Body: Wipe daily with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
- Control panel and knobs: With the valves off, wipe daily using mild detergent.
- Catch tray: After the unit has cooled, pull the tray out from the front, wipe away residue with a cloth and cleaning agent, then reinstall it. Clean it after each use, and do not allow residue to accumulate too high in the tray.
- Periodic inspection: The manual calls for a comprehensive inspection at least once every year by authorized, licensed technicians.
Troubleshooting
The manual advises stopping use and contacting technicians if a fault occurs. The following checks reflect its listed possible causes and remedies; gas work and adjustments should be left to qualified technicians.
- Burner will not light: The manual lists insufficient gas pressure or a blocked nozzle as possible causes. It directs the operator to contact the local gas supplier about pressure and to clear a blocked nozzle.
- Pilot lights but the main burner does not: Possible causes include low gas pressure, a blocked main-burner nozzle, a faulty gas control valve, excessive distance between the pilot and main burner, or a pilot flame that is too low. The manual lists contacting the gas supplier, clearing the nozzle, replacing a faulty valve, or having the pilot position or height adjusted as remedies.
- A sound is heard after the gas is turned off: The manual lists insufficient supply pressure, a nozzle aperture that does not match the gas type, insufficient flow through the connection pipe, or an excessively open damper. It recommends checking supply pressure, matching the nozzle to the fuel, ensuring adequate pipe flow and adjusting the damper.
- Yellow flame or black smoke: The manual lists an unsuitable gas supply, a nozzle aperture that does not match the gas, or insufficient combustion air. Its remedies include using the correct gas and nozzle and adjusting the damper opening. Have these checks and adjustments handled by a licensed technician.
Applications
The ACHP-2 suits commercial kitchens that need two gas cooking positions without allocating space to a full-size range. Its independent controls allow an operator to manage each burner separately, making it useful for tasks such as preparing sauces, heating pans or adding a pair of burners to a restaurant cooking line. The manual identifies hotels, supermarkets, western restaurants and food-industry operations among the intended settings.
