About the Hobart CL66C-BAS
Overview
The Hobart CL66C-BAS is an electric, high-temperature rack conveyor dishwasher in Hobart’s CL Series. Its conveyor moves racks through the wash process at 5.6 feet per minute, and its NSF-rated capacity is 202 racks per hour. The machine has a 22-inch corner scrapper, a 23-gallon scrapper tank and a 23-gallon wash tank. A 19.5-inch chamber opening can accommodate up to six standard sheet pans at a time on an open-end sheet pan rack.
For busy dishrooms, the CL66C-BAS pairs high-volume rack handling with operator diagnostics and service information on its touchscreen. WiFi connectivity and SmartConnect provide machine status, temperature logs, error-code reporting, and analysis of cost, consumption and usage.

Installation & Requirements
The CL66C-BAS requires a single hot-water supply. Hobart specifies a building flowing water pressure of 20 to 65 PSI at the machine and recommends water hardness of 3 grains or less for best results. The spec sheet gives the common hot-water connection as 1/2-inch FPT and the drain as 2-inch FPT. The drain can be connected at either end of the drain housing; plug the unused end. The manual specifies a 2-inch NPT drain connection through a trap to the sewer. If a grease trap is required by code, the manual calls for a minimum flow capacity of 38 gallons per minute.
For high-temperature sanitizing with the 18 kW built-in booster, minimum incoming hot-water temperature is 110°F. If the booster is field-converted to 12 kW, the specified minimum is 140°F. The spec sheet also lists 180°F incoming water for high-temperature sanitizing without a built-in booster and 130°F for chemical sanitizing without a built-in booster. The standard CL66C-BAS configuration described here has the 18 kW booster.
The optional drain water tempering kit requires an additional cold-water supply. The spec sheet lists a 1/2-inch FPT cold-water connection for this option and a maximum cold-water temperature of 80°F. Ventilation requirements are 200 CFM minimum at the load end and 400 CFM minimum at the unload end; stainless steel vent hoods are available as accessories. The machine is not provided with internal GFCI protection. Electrical and grounding connections must comply with applicable electrical codes, and plumbing connections must comply with applicable sanitary, safety and plumbing codes.
The spec sheet identifies single-point electrical connection as standard and provides voltage, phase, rated amp and circuit data in the specifications above. It also lists a dual-point connection as a field conversion. Confirm the machine’s electrical configuration against the site supply before installation.
Operation
Before operating, the CL Series manual instructs operators to make sure the dishwasher is clean and all parts are in place. For a machine equipped with the scrapper, install the standpipe with strainer in the first tank where racks enter. Install the rear and side strainer pans and lower the scrap basket. Fit the upper and lower wash arms with their sliders closed: push each arm onto its connector pipe, position the opposite end in its guide, and lift or lower the arm into place. The manual also describes a standpipe without a strainer for a second or third tank where present.
During use, racks travel through the machine on its conveyor. The touchscreen provides machine controls, diagnostics and troubleshooting. If the machine enters Energy Saver mode, the manual’s troubleshooting table says to press WASH on the HMI to resume. If the automatic timer has timed out, push START or insert a rack. The machine also has door interlock switches; the manual reports that operation is interrupted if a door is opened during operation.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The manual’s preparation instructions emphasize starting with a clean machine and correctly installed standpipes, strainer pans, scrap basket and wash arms. The CL66C-BAS spec sheet also identifies the large double door opening as providing access for cleaning, along with sloping scrap screens, deep scrap baskets, capless anti-clogging wash arms and a stainless steel self-draining pump and impeller.
If checking a pump intake because of poor wash results, the manual directs the operator to disconnect electrical power and follow lockout/tagout procedures first. It warns that there may be multiple circuits. Drain the tank or tanks before checking for an obstruction at the pump intake. The provided manual excerpt does not specify a maintenance interval.
Troubleshooting
Machine does not operate
- Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker at the power supply.
- Make sure inspection doors are closed.
- Check whether the conveyor has jammed.
- If the automatic timer has timed out, push START or insert a rack.
- If a table limit switch is installed, check whether it has tripped.
- If the machine is in Energy Saver mode, press WASH on the HMI to resume.
Dishes are not clean
- The manual lists insufficient wash water or a drain obstruction causing an open-drain condition as possible causes.
- Check for a worn or torn drain O-ring that allows wash water to drain.
- Check that wash-arm sliders are closed and that wash-arm nozzles are not obstructed.
- Check for a worn or torn manifold O-ring that allows wash water to drain.
- A pump obstruction can reduce water pressure. Before checking the pump intake, disconnect power, follow lockout/tagout procedures and drain the tank.
- Check water temperature. The manual identifies the electric heat supply, main steam valve or gas supply valve as possible heat sources to check; the CL66C-BAS covered here is the electric model.
Displayed errors
- Errors 016 and 017: Wash-tank pressure sensor fault. The manual describes a short circuit or water level above the maximum for error 016, and an open circuit or failure to reach the minimum booster water level for error 017. Contact Hobart Service.
- Error 018: Wash-tank water level is too high. Check the drain for obstructions and drain the machine; contact Hobart Service if the error persists or the machine cannot drain.
- Errors 020 and 023: Tank fill time exceeded. Confirm the drain is closed, incoming water is on and the fill hose is not kinked; verify water pressure is 20 to 65 PSI. Drain the machine and try filling again. Contact Hobart Service if the error persists.
- Error 029: Wash interrupted because a door was opened. Close the doors.
- Errors 083 and 084: Final rinse temperature did not reach minimum temperature within the set time. Press ENTER to clear the error; error 084 stops the wash cycle and turns the machine off when cleared. Contact Hobart Service if the error persists.
- Errors 085 and 086: Wash-tank or booster overtemperature trip. Contact Hobart Service.
- Errors 088 and 089: Wash-tank or booster contactor error; the heater remains on despite a software command to turn it off. Turn off the machine circuit breaker or breakers, do not drain the machine, and contact Hobart Service.
Applications
The CL66C-BAS is suited to commercial dishrooms that process racks continuously and need a conveyor machine with a scrapper tank. Its 202-rack-per-hour rating and 19.5-inch chamber opening are relevant to high-volume kitchens handling dish racks and, on an open-end sheet pan rack, standard sheet pans. The configurable pot-and-pan cycle provides an additional cycle option for cookware.
