About the Hobart CL76-DWR
Overview
The Hobart CL76-DWR is a high-temperature, single-tank rack conveyor dishwasher in Hobart’s CL Series. The manufacturer’s steam spec sheet identifies drain water energy recovery (DWER), a power scrapper, touchscreen controls, and a 19.5-inch standard chamber opening. It is rated for 245 racks per hour, with a pumped final rinse rate of 114 gallons per hour.
The chamber can accommodate up to six standard sheet pans at a time when they are loaded on an open-end sheet pan rack. The machine also has a configurable pot-and-pan cycle with NSF rating, making that cycle relevant for kitchens washing suitable pots and pans as well as dish racks.
Key Features
- High-throughput conveyor: The manufacturer lists a capacity of 245 racks per hour and a conveyor speed of 6.8 feet per minute.
- Power scrapper: A 22-inch power scrapper is listed as standard equipment.
- Drain water energy recovery: DWER is a standard feature. The manufacturer also specifies a factory-installed drain water tempering kit.

Installation & Requirements
Water supply
The CL-DWR installation instructions call for both cold- and hot-water supplies. For CL-DWR models with the built-in booster, the manual lists a cold-water supply range of 55°F to 80°F and a hot-water supply minimum of 110°F. Use an incoming water line with a minimum 1/2-inch inside diameter. The troubleshooting instructions specify checking that water pressure is 20–65 psi when the tank does not fill as expected.
The manual notes that the water pressure regulator must have a relief bypass. For water with hardness of 3 grains or more, the Hobart spec notes that adding a water softener is suggested.
Drain
The tank drain uses one common drain connection to the floor drain and can be connected at either end; a pipe plug is provided for the opposite end. The manual specifies connecting through a trap to the sewer using 2-inch NPT pipe. For CL-DWR models, factory drain plumbing may need to be relocated to the opposite side of the drain body, depending on the connection arrangement. The manufacturer’s spec also lists a 2-inch FPT drain connection and two possible connection locations.
Steam and electrical notes
The CL76-DWR steam spec sheet lists a steam tank-heat configuration. The installation manual states that a steam supply pressure regulator must be installed if flowing steam pressure exceeds 50 psig. For a single-tank steam-coil installation, the manual calls for separate steam supply and return connections. The spec sheet lists a 24 kW internal booster and a single-point electrical connection. The dishmachine is not provided with internal GFCI protection, according to the supplied specification notes.
Operation
Before operation
The manual says to confirm that the dishwasher is clean and all parts are in place. For the scrapper, install the standpipe with strainer in the first tank where the rack enters the machine. Install the rear and side strainer pans and lower the scrap basket. Install the upper and lower wash arms with their sliders closed, seating each arm on its connector pipe and in its guide. Install the standpipe or standpipes in the wash and rinse tanks; the standpipe without a strainer goes in the second or third tank. Install the tank strainer pan and scrap basket, then fit the upper and lower wash arms with their sliders closed.
Starting and resuming
The manual’s troubleshooting guidance identifies several conditions that can prevent operation: a blown fuse or tripped supply breaker, an open inspection door, a jammed conveyor, an expired Auto-Timer, or a tripped table limit switch when one is fitted. If the machine has entered Energy Saver Mode, press WASH on the HMI to resume. If the Auto-Timer has timed out, the manual says to push START or insert a rack.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The supplied manual excerpt does not provide a complete routine cleaning schedule or maintenance interval. It does specify that the machine should be clean and its components correctly installed before operation. For a poor-wash condition related to a suspected pump obstruction, the manual directs the operator to disconnect electrical power and follow lockout/tagout procedures before checking the pump intake. It warns that there may be multiple circuits; all circuits must be disconnected. Drain the tank or tanks before checking for an obstruction.
The spec sheet lists Complete Delime with Delime Notification and Auto Dispensing. The touchscreen also provides diagnostics and troubleshooting, while SmartConnect offers temperature logs, error-code reporting, and machine status information.
Troubleshooting
Machine does not operate
- Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker at the power supply.
- Confirm that inspection doors are closed.
- Check whether the conveyor is jammed.
- If the Auto-Timer has timed out, push START or insert a rack.
- If a table limit switch is fitted, check whether it has been tripped.
- If the machine is in Energy Saver Mode, press WASH on the HMI.
Dishes are not clean
The manual lists insufficient wash water, a drain obstruction causing an open-drain condition, a worn or torn drain O-ring, open wash-arm sliders, blocked wash-arm nozzles, a worn or torn manifold O-ring, and pump obstructions that reduce water pressure as possible causes. It also identifies incorrect water temperature; its excerpt says to check the circuit breaker to the electric heat supply, the main steam valve, or the gas supply valve, as applicable to the installed heat arrangement.
Selected displayed errors
- 016 or 017: Wash-tank pressure-sensor fault. The listed causes are a short circuit or open circuit, or a booster water level outside the expected limit. The manual directs the operator to contact Hobart Service.
- 018: Wash-tank water level is above the upper limit. Check the drain for obstructions and drain the machine. If the error continues or the machine cannot drain, contact Hobart Service.
- 020: Tank fill time exceeded. Confirm the drain is closed, the incoming water is on, and the fill hose is not kinked; verify water pressure is 20–65 psi. Drain the machine and try filling again. Contact Hobart Service if the error persists.
- 023: The wash-tank water level did not increase within the set time. Confirm the drain is closed, the incoming water is on, and the fill hose is not kinked; verify water pressure is 20–65 psi. Contact Hobart Service if the error persists.
- 029: Wash interrupted because a door was opened during operation. The displayed instruction is to close the doors.
- 083: Final-rinse temperature did not reach its minimum within the set time. Press ENTER to clear the error; contact Hobart Service if it persists.
- 084: Final-rinse temperature did not reach its minimum within the set time and the wash cycle stopped. Press ENTER to clear the error; the machine will turn off. Contact Hobart Service if the error persists.
- 085 or 086: Wash-tank or booster overtemperature has tripped. The manual directs the operator to contact Hobart Service.
- 088 or 089: A wash-tank or booster contactor error means the heater remains on despite the software command to turn it off. Turn off the machine circuit breaker or breakers, do not drain the machine, and contact Hobart Service.
- 094 or 095: Power-rinse tank pressure-sensor fault. The listed causes involve a short or open circuit or a water level outside the expected limit. Contact Hobart Service.
- 100 or 101: Power-rinse temperature-sensor fault. Contact Hobart Service.
- 102 or 103: Drain Water Tempering temperature-sensor fault. If the DWT assembly is not installed, the manual says to disable DWT in the manager menu; otherwise, contact Hobart Service.
- 234: External conveyor is not ready. Confirm it is powered on, ready, and has no errors. Contact Hobart Service if the issue continues.
Applications
The listed throughput and conveyor operation make the CL76-DWR a fit for commercial dishrooms that process racks continuously, such as those serving restaurants, hotels, institutional kitchens, and other foodservice operations. Its 19.5-inch chamber opening and stated sheet-pan capacity also suit kitchens that need to wash standard sheet pans on an open-end sheet pan rack. The NSF-rated configurable pot-and-pan cycle adds a documented option for pot-and-pan loads.
